Warplane Art / Re: Blackburn Buccaneer
« on: February 06, 2014, 12:14:55 PM »
Laarbruch was not far from the East German border and for this reason two Buccaneers were on 24 hours alert armed with a WE.177A tactical nuclear bomb. They could be airborne within 15 minutes. It still was the Cold War!!

Excellent work! This was one of the three Buccaneer S.2B's used as general test aircraft by the R.A.E. They did not have the enlarged bomb bay with a fuel tank of the standard R.A.F. S.2B.

Skyraider had the same engine as the Lockheed Constellation. We have one at the Aviodrome museum that is kept more or less in an airworthy condition although the engines have not run since 2009. Propellers are turned from time to time; seems to be necessary and I can assure it is dripping oil from all four engines and there are flat steel containers lying under each engine to collect the spilled oil. Indeed: when not dripping something is wrong!

I just received the Revell news with the announcement that a new Bf 109G-10 1/32 kit has been released with decals of Erich Hartmann's machine.
Should be interesting..........

I really like to see the geodetic construction in the wing surface!
Construction was quite unique!

Interesting start! Just to inform you: I am working on a Warplane volume on the Buccaneer.
Everything is more or less ready except for the final artwork.
Book is expected this spring! Book is already announced on the website of publisher Lanasta.

Work in Germany on a two-seat Bf 109G-12 back-engineered from a Hispano Buchon seems to progress very successfully!

Aircraft Modeling / Re: A-20 Time
« on: January 03, 2014, 06:22:01 PM »
Years ago I have seen a move at an IPMS event showing how the invasion stripes were applied on Hawker Typhoons for D-Day. They were hand painted with a broad brush and a bucket of paint and it was all done in a great hurry. It was a great difference of those neatly applied stripes on plastic models and I can still hear the laughter!!

It is interesting to know the A-20 prototype was originally fitted with a twin fin.
It is even more interesting it is the only bomber/attack plane receiving a fighter designation (as P-70)

I can hardly take this 'project' serious. IF it is a fighter or bomber, I guess it will have a range 'between Teheran and Isfahan'! At such small dimensions it must barely have room for fuel.
Just joking: maybe they'll leave out the pilot at final production!!!
