SpaceX: an Arc of Innovation
« on: October 23, 2014, 05:05:12 PM »
To end U.S. reliance on Russia for transporting crews to and from the International Space Station (ISS), NASA is relying on SpaceX and Boeing. Engineering360 explores the achievements of SpaceX to date, and the technologies responsible for success. The list includes "the first privately funded, liquid-fueled rocket to reach orbit; the first privately funded company to successfully launch, orbit, and recover a spacecraft; the first private company to send a spacecraft to the ISS; and the first private company to send a satellite into geosynchronous orbit." Now SpaceX is working on one of the most powerful launch vehicles since the Saturn V — the Falcon Heavy. Lift off is scheduled for 2015.
