Post by: draken35 on October 30, 2013, 07:03:39 PM
Here is a little figure from RetrokiT, that I own since a long time. I have painted Santa with acrylic paints.

Hope you like him...

Santa Claus is in fact an American re-worked version of our Dutch Sint Nicolaas.
In our country he gives presents to little kids on 5 December aided by 'Zwarte Piet' (Black Peter).
At the moment there is a big political uproar from a very small minority who want to have this celebration removed from Dutch folklore because 'it is discriminating to black people'.
Really weird!!!

Hahaha- great idea :) Nico is right, it was of Dutch origin and in 1952 it was recreated for the Coca Cola company. The face used for illustration was one retired sales man.

And yes, there is big political uproar actually with Zwarte Piet. In Belgium it's also Sint Niklaas (in French: Saint Nicolas; Zwarte Piet being Père Fouettard).
Politicians have nothing intelligent to do but to attack traditions...
