Trumpeter F-106B
« on: May 16, 2016, 05:48:30 PM »
Here's the latest project on my desk, the Trumpeter two-seat Delta Dart. This is another build for my friend at work and a long story goes with this one that I'll tell later.

It's a nice kit with a bit better detail than the old Monogram model and also has recessed panel lines. The main great point of this one is that I don't have to do an expensive vacuform conversion of an A model!

Well, I don't think it will be that good, but I'll make it a good addition to my friend's collection of Delta Darts!

This PE fret comes with the kit and will be a good thing (I confess I have gotten very spoiled by using the excellent Eduard seat harnesses!). This will be entirely from the box with only aftermarket squadron markings. We cornered the market on 49th FIS decal sheets a while back knowing we were going to do this one.

Small progress as there isn't enough time in a day!

Thanks!

No.1, this landing gear set is plastic, the one from the Trumpeter kit. I was debating using the SAC set on this one but decided to adapt it to the drone project.

There is a lot of interior detail in this one and it took a lot of green paint! The color call-outs and most references show standard interior green FS 34151 for this purpose but the real thing is somewhat darker. I used 34127 which matches what was used in the later days of the F-106 service:

This one sends decals for the side panels and instruments. I used the main flight instrument decals and hand painted the rest since the detail molded on the parts is quite good.

Thanks!

This really screams to have more detailing done to it, but the new owner isn't sure yet if he wants canopy up or down. If we make it open I'll add some extra equipment in the space between the cockpits. If closed that area is covered by a panel. Mike (the new owner) is unsure about the canopy so I'll press on with the build and add detail later!
