Just before Christmas I was looking to finish at least one old project that has been pushed to the back of the queue. My eyes fell on this Tamiya straight-wing F-84 that I started during our old Group Build here: http://www.letletlet-warplanes.com/forum/makete-aviona-aircraft-modeling/group-buildgt-f-84/msg27651/#msg27651
Rather than bring the old topic out if slumber I'll just pick up the progress here, three years later....... I pulled the model from the box and finished detail painting the cockpit and nose well. When this was done it was a very simple matter to glue the nose well, cockpit with supplied weight, speedbrake well and exhaust nozzle into the right half and then glue the halves together. This is such a beautifully engineered model that only a tiny amount of filler is required at the seams of the fuselage halves. I'll use no filler at all on the wing and horizontal stabilizer joints--they are perfect! The fuel tanks do require a little more filler, mostly because of my clumsy assembly.

Good!!!
-
Goodness, it has been over five years since I worked on this one!
-
It is an excellent model, very nice and relaxing to build, no doubt it will look great !
-
Certainly it is a relaxing kit, one of the best I've built in a long time from that viewpoint!
The main reason it didn't get finished five years ago was my problem with decals. I really wished to build a camouflaged Danish airplane but didn't feel like doing the conversion to a recon airplane. Now I've given up on that idea and I'll do a Korean War USAF version, but not one of the extremely "flashy" paint schemes with all the stripes and such.

Very nice kit; I own the Thunderjet on my stash. I have also decals to make a Belgian one...
-
I actually found one of the decal sets with the Belgian airplane on it but the seller wants a fortune for it! I have a very plain U.S. scheme in mind and painting is soon to start on this one.

Found mine here; $18.97 is not cheap but yet acceptable; and there is also a decal sheet with a camoflaged Danish aircraft...

Twelve years after I started this F-84, I've finally finished it. More photos later!

:-clap :-clap :-clap just some time ago I think to open various boxes and start finishing projects start ling time ago!! Interesting to note- completed kit use less space then boxed.

The Thunderjet is one of my favourite planes ever!
Well done Scott!

Thank you, Daniel.
I was originally going to build this in a non-USAF scheme but never got around to finding decals. Since I wanted to work with the Vallejo NMF paints I used the kit decals. I did mask and spray the yellow/black stripes but everything else is from Tamiya. The decals worked really well considering their age.... :-wise

Lovely results :-love

Looks excellent mate !

Thank you, friends! This is such a pleasure to build--Tamiya kits almost build themselves!
