For what I know,  radio wires disappeared on the Spitfires circa 1942

Daniel is right, antenna wires were eliminated on the Spitfire, and they started sometime in 1940 to install new VHF radios that didn't need the wires. However, the IFF antenna wires from the fuselage to the horizontal stabilizers were still in use until sometime in early 1943.
