Title: S.P.A.D XIII Eduard 1/48
Post by: No.1 on September 09, 2008, 01:55:42 PM

Just few hours ago I get this beautiful kit!!! It look like the enlarged version of the 1/72 kit and capture as I could note all what the smaller kit have. My aim will goal to make plane flown by Rene Fonk.

It's agood idea but we have to search because in Sallonka there were the following French Escadrilles :
501, 502 (no Spad's), 503 (no Spad's), 506, 522 (no Spad's), 523, 524 (no Spad's) ;
At Mikra : 510 (no Spad's) and also 524 ;
At "Camp Alladini" : 504 (no Spad's), 505 (no Spad's), 507, 523 ;
At "Camp de Sédès" : 521 (no Spad's) and 525 (no Spad's).

I think Fonck was a visitor to this Escadrille. But I don't remember Fonck went to Greece at a time...

Hope to see more Spad photos soon

There is the possibility this photo shows Fonck as guest of the Escadrille 77... in France.
I'm searching for the possible date and location.

Good- thank you :) Every info about Fonck and his plane is welcome. Is the plane preserved in Paris his original? It look like that.

The only Spad I know in Paris is Guynemer's Spad VII "Le vieux Charles". This plane is finished "Lin vernis" (Clear doped linen) (Humbrol 71 color) and "Beige" (Humbrol 71+72 mix).
Other colors I've found for WW 1 are :
Vert clair (Light green) : Humbrol 120 ; Kaki : Humbrol 155 ; Kaki foncé (Dark Kakhi) : Humbrol 66 ; Bois (Wood) : Humbrol 63 ; Rouge intérieur (Interior Red) : Humbrol 60 or 73 or 113.

WW 1 tires were NEVER black but Pink or Light Pink (the real color of rubber), light brown or light to medium Gray...

Cheers,
jicehem

Hello No. 1,

I have just discovered your build on this forum.  Very nice interior.

Thanks very much for sharing the video of the SPAD diorama!  Did you build it?

And what a great video.  I liked the music with it too.  I would like to learn how to do videos like that.

I think that SPAD hanging from the ceiling is a XVII.  Very different nose profile.

Keep up the great work and please keep us posted on your progress.

Thanks,
Dave

I gotta tell you, it is one of the finest WWI kits build I've seen... It's coming out really well, congratulations!!!  :-clap

On the other hand, my SE-5a is still waiting for the painting stage, job is keeping me away from modeling  :-help. It's a good thing on one hand, I have a job and on the other... I'm too tired for modeling!!!

Keep up the good work!

Javier

Hi mate,

Very beautiful !

But pay attention : don't paint the tyres black. During WW1, rubber tyres were not black. Some were pink !

Have a good day, the same for all other members.

I know for the rubber color. But vulcanization of tires are introduced in late years and as I know SPAD have very dark rubber. All right- maybe we can check out some hi resolution images before this kit become final.
