Time to start on this one, it's been staring at me from the unbuilt pile for too long........ :-eek It is, obviously, the Revell Me 410 with the extra PE parts from the Pro Modeler series. So far I've found it rather nice.

One drawback is the engine intake scoops. These are molded in an oval shape and are a bit too long. I suspect the moldmaker and master fabricator just didn't spend enough time getting these parts round. The fix isn't all that difficult, mainly consisting of cutting off the end of the scoops and then filing the remaining plastic to a round shape. After filing a bit of aluminum tubing was added and some putty to fair everything to a smooth shape:

Yes!!!

Superb ! Looking forward to see this bird done
-
Excellent start!
-
Thanks, all!
This is a really nice kit other than those intakes. I've been reading that there is also some extra work with fitting the canopy, but that is a ways off for me. I almost hated to trim off the details in the cockpit that are replaced with the PE parts as Revell did a beautiful job on molding instruments and panels.
-
Some small progress here, first to complete the PE cockpit enhancement and then fitting it all together in the fuselage:

Here is the first fitting of the transparencies. This will be slightly tricky, but I don't think it'll be as bad as some of the articles I've read on the web.

Nice cockpit!!!
-
Yes, the plastic parts alone are quite well molded and detailed. They would look beautiful with careful painting. The PE parts fit perfectly and are also excellent, so the modeler is given two good choices with these Pro Modeler versions. I'd still very much enjoy building one of these without the PE, though!
-
Excellent kit...

Hello,
Nice work.
Cheers,
Jicehem :-wave

Superb !

Thank you, friends!
Fuselage halves have been joined and sighting station added to the rear cockpit:

Currently I'm working on the hardest part of this build, installing the canopy assembly. All the reading I did about this was true--the transparencies take four hands to manipulate into position when gluing!
-
I am impressed with look :-eek :-razz :-clap :-clap :-clap
-
The canopy, however.....was a great battle.
-
Splendid result!

impressive !

Thank you, friends--I needed this encouragement when fitting the transparencies.......
Revell was left with a hard problem regarding the canopy parts. The gunner's sighting station is much wider than the fuselage sides where the canopy fastens and the aft canopy bulges outward a great amount to accommodate the side sights. The moldmakers and designers split the canopy into two sections lengthwise, one of the only options available. Well, I test-fitted the canopy numerous times and had decided I was pretty confident of the procedure to use, but when the glue was applied I struggled to get all the parts nestled into place. Once the adhesive dried it was time for putty along most of the seams, far more than I originally thought would be needed. So......after lots of sanding and filling I was finally able to apply a final coat of RLM66 on the finished enclosure. (Incidentally, I think this is the first time I ever assembled the canopy of a kit before installing the wings, but I assure you it was much easier this way!)

Nicely done

:-ok

So little time on this one--we're doing some freshening-up/remodeling in one room of our home that is taking most of my time right now. At any rate the radiators and oil coolers have been assembled, cowlings filled and sanded and the Reichsverteidigung stripes are painted on the fuselage:

Hi,
I wonder about the markings of this plane. Do we know photographs of that particular Me 410 ?
Jicéhem :-wave
-
Yes, I actually stumbled across a photo of it airborne with 9K+Ww in the background. I was really undecided on paint scheme until I found that photo on the web. Until the discovery I was contemplating a couple of other airplanes--Me 410 photos are more scarce than I had thought they would be!
-
After Jicehem and I talked about this one he pointed out that there was no red band so I made the appropriate correction--easy to do at this stage and a wonderful example of why I enjoy being part of LLL! So, after fixing that small matter I continued to paint in a "modular" fashion. On a twin engined machine this makes the mottling so much easier on the forward fuselage. Then the wing top surfaces were painted and the nacelles finished top-and-bottom:

Here is the beauty of this old Revell kit--the wings fit so closely that I could glue them on and use only a tiny bit of filler at the joint:

Various touching-up and clear gloss applied:

I just wait ti see moment of wing attaching and it is made greatly!!
-
Hello,
It will be beautiful. Bravo !
Jicéhem :-wave
-
Thanks, mates!
The wings go on so easily on this kit, I must say. It is important to plan time to let the glue dry because there are no "slots" like often used, but the fit is nearly perfect.
-
:-ok
-
Beautiful ! Looking forward to see it finished !

Here's a small update on the Messerschmitt with a product review thrown in. No.1 sent me this Ultimate Weathering Wash some months ago and finally I got a chance to try it. I highly recommend this!!!! I experimented with drying times and wiping methods to achieve different effects and everything went great! More later, time is short right now....
(http://i174.photobucket.com/albums/w117/2AF/2AF023/IMG_2813_zpsxioycscw.jpg) (http://s174.photobucket.com/user/2AF/media/2AF023/IMG_2813_zpsxioycscw.jpg.html)

Yes :-tri :-tri :-tri :-ok :-wave :-clap
-
So, I first tried to use this on a different kit but I had already flat-coated the model and it didn't work quite right. I followed your method here and I am impressed!!

:))

While having a cup of coffee I will give y'all my version of using the Ultimate Wash (sorry, no photos yet). I followed the manufacturer and Srecko's instructions and sprayed the machine with my favorite gloss coat and let it dry. Then I liberally brushed the Wash over everything. Ultimate recommends waiting thirty minutes before wiping, but (of course) I couldn't wait to try some exploring so I used a dry towel to brush off some of the residue after five minutes. I was able to keep the wash in the panel lines and remove it from flat surfaces with no problem. Then I reapplied and waited about fifteen minutes for it to dry, then more with a damp towel and it makes excellent streaking effect! It took some practice to find out the right dampness and pressure to use, but this product is superb! Since I still use enamels and lacquers for my base finishes this water-based product is so easy--if I don't like an outcome I simply wet it and wipe it clean, then reapply. Highly recommend that everyone try this!!!

I am happy to see your positive experience :)) If this mean anything, here you are:

Personally I am happy to manage free material for friends, what was basic idea when this place was established many years ago ;)

hanks for the trial, good to know!

Here are a few photos of this KG-51 Hornisse. As for the Ultimate Wash, I didn't over-do the effects as I was intending to show the airplane as it looks in the photo I have, not overly weathered and beaten-up.

In summary, this old Revell kit went together pretty well (the canopy does require extra planning and careful execution) and I truly enjoyed the build. I even was able to use the kit decals with no problems at all, though some service stenciling was not provided. Special thanks to our Jicehem for steering me in the right path regarding the fuselage band! :-salut
-
Great build my friend! :-ok
-
Thank you, mate!
I am partial to building either a formation destroyer with underwing rockets or one with the great cannon in the nose--so another of these will someday grace my project stack!
-
:-clap :-clap :-clap :-clap Very like :-ok
-
Thanks!
-
Hello,
Simply beautiful !
I'm glad to see it built because I got one kit years ago and it is always in its box...
Jicéhem :-wave
-
Thanks, mate!
Yes, mine sat in the box for quite some time before I started it also! I confess that I don't build the larger airplanes as often as I once did because I've run out of display space.
-
... because I've run out of display space.
It's the same for me, even in 1/72 scale.
Jicéhem :-wave

beautiful build !

Thanks!
