Title: North American F-51K Mustang
Post by: Jicehem on August 04, 2010, 03:39:52 PM
Hi mates,  :-salut :-salut :-salut

Here is an old kit out of the early 1960's. This is the Hawk model of the P-51D Mustang in 1/48 scale reissued in 1980 by Italeri. As for the Hawk model, there was the possibility to get a chrome plated kit... Mine is standard.
All metal rendering is made with Humbrol Metalcoat "Polished aluminium" buffed with SNJ aluminium powder. The rendering of the actually painted wings has been ogtained by painting a matt varnish on the polished Metalcoat. I had to get an Aeroproduct propeller in place of the standard Curtiss airscrew of the P-51D...
My kit presents an F-51K of the GR 2/33 "Savoie" based at Cognac in 1950-1951. The kit has been build during July of this year.

Beautiful! And, I must say, I really enjoy this site and the models you folks build because I get to see the diverse markings. Being here in the U.S.A. it is always "stars and bars" over and over again. Not a bad thing, but it is more fun to see a variety of markings in my opinion.

Those photos bring back fond memories for me as I built a couple of the original Hawk kits when they were current production. :-wise I still have some parts of those models in my spares boxes.......

Yes, handbrush but after the paint has been hand-brushed I buff the paint with an alumium powder...
