Well I'm stuck with my F 104. The tamiya paint remover is so good that it resolves the glue as well so many parts fell off, I glued them back again, then surfacer and discovered a lot of damage after removing the paint, fix some of them but I just can't look at it anymore, for a while at least....
So I needed a relax project. Some time I'm thinking of making this diorama, last year I went to the Duna?jv?ros ( Hungary ) sport airfield, near the main entrance there is a Mig -15 of Hungary AF on pole with a monument under it remembering the lost aviators during the years.
The kit I choose is Hobby 2000 ( the kit in box is actually Bronco ) no fancy updates only few wires here and there, the painting will be fun.
As a first step here are the pictures I had taken and the whole thing should look something like this

Part two

Part three
-
part four
-
part five

Very good background!!!

Thank you mate ! I like to build models with some story
First step, assembly of wings, the fit is perfect, even I closed the air brakes, no putty needed at all ! It is relaxing hope the rest of the model will follow this manner....
And yes, counting rivets.......
-
I'm stuck in a moment.... The Mig does not have a seat in the cockpit ( the real ) and I could not find any picture or drawing or anything actually of cockpit area behind the seat, so if anybody has anything and willing to share it it would help !
In the meantime to take advantage of my enthusiasm and will I decided to make the pole, or at least start it. It's full scratch build with Evergreen styrene, the screw heads are made with an excellent hexagonal punch and die tool made by RP Toolz. The welding is Tamiya putty formed with tooth stick. Hope you like it...
P.S. My neighbor is a fan of my hobby :-green and he provided the steel rod for add stability and secure from future transportation damage to the pole, not just the pole, the whole model
-
Nothing impossible on holly forum :)) extracts from MiG-15 manual...
-
And some photos of preserved sample :-ok
-
And few more photos, one from Russian restoration facility, archive photo of seat and rest is from Stupino Museum.
-
Thank you my friend !
-
Oooppsss... I was tired yesterday, I read just seat, somehow miss- area behind seat. Sorry, will take a look later what is available :(
-
Not a problem mate. This is good starting point, anything more is bonus !
-
A bit of progress. The instrument panel is well, I can't find the proper words and stay decent.... However, the decal provided as instrument panel was great for start point for my work, as seen on the pictures of the real plane a lot of installation and the ejection seat is missing so I think all the instruments of the cockpit were taken out; so I used the decal to point the instruments and then make an empty instrument panel. On the sides of the cockpit all the electronics are taken out so I had to drill holes for missing panels. However this made a problem, the intake channel is part of cockpit so I had to make a styreen backside to prevent the light come thru the holes, painted it black to make deepness. With dry-fitting of the fuselage I could see the interior of the fuselage, first I thought painting it black would be enough but the fitting pins of the fuselage and cockpit would still be visible so I made some intake channel imitation to hide this parts. Not fitted and putty perfectly I know but it would do.... And some work on the fuselage

Your builds can not without surgery :))

Your builds can not without surgery :))
Well you know me.... :-green
-
Stunning work !
-
Thank you friends !
The work continued, the cockpit detailed ( or undetailed if you like it better :-green ) to the phase to join the fuselage. The rest will follow after the fuselage is in one piece. More to follow soon I hope
-
I realize now... in case you become criminal or something like that and need to be punishments' for your crime. No jail, no forced work... just to force you to build kits strait from the box :-smey :-smey :-smey
-
:-ok

Nice one mate ! :)) :)) :))
-
:-ok
Thank you !

Fuselage is in one piece, the fitting is amazing, a very little plus work will be needed. I'm done with the cockpit. I know it's not 100% accurate but it will be very low visible on the end so I think the level of details is enough. At least I hope so.....
-
And some progress on diorama elements, the monument and the brick road leading to it. It's made from styreene, the imitation of concrete texture is made with Mr. Surfacer, the only reason I used black Surfacer is that was the thickest one I have at the moment.....
-
Pleasant work for you as I see :))
-
Waw...
-
Pleasant work for you as I see :))
In deed my friend
Waw...
Thank you !
Some progress, painted and weathered the cockpit, pictures are poor, I just couldn't find the right light for taking pictures, it is too small, too deep, hard to be done. But I think you all can get the idea how it looks. And smoe work on the pole, it is painted and some weathearing is made on it, more to follow
-
:-ok
-
:-eek :-eek :-eek :-clap :-clap
-
Started to work on diorama a bit, I got inspiration for scenery. The pole and the monument glued, started with the ground, first the earth as a base for grass with some rocks. More to follow soon !
-
Rust look like rust :)
-
:-ok
-
And some progress on the layout
-
:-clap :-clap :-adore
-
Nice !
-
Thank you friends !
A bit of progress still on the diorama. By looking at the pictures you can see the two funeral wreaths on the monument. So I bought Plus Model funeral wreaths with ribbons 1/35 scale I just could not find anything even similar in 1/48 scale. The product itself looks nice but as usually I wasn't satisfied so I decided to make it myself with using the flowers from the Plus Model. The ring is brass wire, the leaves are Noch leaves I use for threes, I mixed two colors to make it more authentic and then the Plus Model flowers. And some flowers in the grass as well is glued. So here it is
-
:-ok
-
So what is conclusion? Gate guard MiG-15 is authentic almost like Modellius diorama :))
-
Thank you friends !

Nice one :-green :-green :-green
While I'm waiting for a few more elements for the diorama my attention is once again back on the Mig. The kit is clearly designed to be made with open conopy, when it's closed the windshield part is 0.20 mm lower than the rest of the conopy so it would be a step between the two parts, so I put a styreen to make it correct high but this bring me some more extra work on this part, lot of putty will be needed to make it right. In the meantime I inspected the landing gear door, compared the kit part with photos and.... well, new parts had to be done so made them full scratch, you can see the difference, now it's how I like it :-green :-green :-green And some work on the fuselage part of the landing gear openning, still in progress, more to follow soon
-
Doors was inaccurate or not detailed?
-
Not detailed enough
-
Good ;)
-
Waw waw waw...
-
Part one of detailing the wheel wells using photos I made at the sceene
-
You call this details? Where is sparrow nest? Just kidding- excellent :-adore :-razz

There is no sparrow nest on the photos but a good idea, like it ! :-green :-green :-green thank you mate !
-
:-ok

Bit lazy in a few past weeks, but now I make a little progress. The port side wheel bay completed/detailed ( at least I think so. have to check the photos once again just to be sure ), now moving on the starboard side
-
Most important is that you feel good :)
-
You're still doing a fantastic work !
-
Thank you friends !
The port side wing is done as well as the fuselage except the cannons and a few little details. I have to admit in this phase looks very odd, hope after the painting will look more realistic... well soon we will see
-
No idea why this external part is used in such way, they are smooth on surface... but as you see, will see when you paint it :)
-
Yes, external parts seem too thick but I'm waiting for the final result.
I'm still impressed by your detailing abilities, mate!
-

I think they were put in the phase of making the gatekeeper, there is a slight difference in the color so it's possible it is just some kind of " aftermarket " ......

At first sight they were but now it does look good. Thank you mate !
The first step of painting, basic paint done with Alclad and Vallejo, and the decals are on, the decals are a fine aftermarket product made by HAD Decals, I put on some Gunze Mark Softer but had to realise it was just a waste of time and Mark Softer....
-
:-clap :-clap :-clap
-
Thank you mate !
-
:-ok
-
Thank you friends !
First step of weathering. Black wash to highlight the panel lines and the rivets and decals faded to present a faded paint
-
Marking perfectly fade out!!!
-
Thank you !
Weathering step 2
-
:-ok
-
So step 2... :-clap :-clap :-clap :-adore
-
And now the last detail on the diorama, the plates on the monument. A friend of mine made me these using the photos, scaled down and then laser cut. The lampions are made by me using colored transparent sprue frame
-
Wait-this is kit?
-
Waw...
-
Wait-this is kit?
Yep :-green
Waw...
Thank you !
The antenna was poor in the kit so I replaced it, found some similar PE part in my pE spare parts box, just had to shape it to be correct. And the landing gear.
-
Desert at the end, as usual :-razz
-
;-ok
-
And the final assembly and weathering ( almost ) , now just to complete it
-
One detail I like the most, it took me a few hours and 10+ attempt but I got it
-
You are absolute correct about extra panels- look realistic, not noticeable at all that they are just put over, not flush into surface level!!!
-
:-ok
-
Hello friends !
The Mig is finished some time now but didn't have time for photographs, sorry....
But here it is finished !
-
Part two
-
Splendid ! Congratulations mate
-
Incredible realistic work :-razz :-ok :-clap :-clap :-clap :-adore

Thank you friends !
