Josef Priller's Bf-109E
« on: May 01, 2014, 07:20:01 PM »
I've had an Eduard Emil Weekend Edition sitting on the shelf for some time. I have also had an old reference with the common photos of  Priller's E-3 and have always wanted to build this one. So, here goes, with only a couple of photos of the early stages. We've all seen the Eduard kit built so no reason to bore you with that part......

The markings choice is the only one that came with the Weekend Edition, and is also one option in the Royal Class set. I'll use the Royal Class decals as they are just a little sharper but the paint scheme will be my own interpretation. I didn't realize there were so many different ideas of this airplane's various schemes until I began to research it!

Thanks, mate--those are the same ones I have. We've both been studying the photos here and discussing the colors/shades.....it's fun really!

Thanks!

Here is some of the painting progress. First preshading of underside, then base colors. I selected 71/70/65 for my interpretation of Priller's machine. This is debated, and may really have been 71/02 or 70/02 topside but no firm decision is yet made, at least none I've found......

Next, and before adding any markings, I sprayed the 02 patterns on wings and fuselage. This will be enhanced after some markings are applied:

Top wing pattern is so attractive, I guess this will be most interesting Bf 109 build until now

It is certainly one with questions about the colors!

Here's my interpretation (correct or not.....) of Priller's W.Nr. 5057. This was a nice, relaxing kit to build regardless of my accuracy where the camouflage is concerned. Sometimes it's just fun to put the bits together and see what happens! The kit is strictly Weekend Edition with the addition of masking-tape seatbelt harness. The airplane is spotless, just as it appeared in the photos taken of it. It seems that Priller's ground crew kept his machine neat and clean, just like his BMW sports car!

Thanks, friends!

Now I think I have been bitten by the "Priller-bug" and have a desire to build more of his airplanes.......
