Excellent reminder on some old box design as well artwork! As I know some Revell kits in strange scale was in official sale until the '80. I think that last one I have seen was Crusader in 1/68 scale but I am not complete sure. By the way- do you have a names of the artist?

Hi mate,  :-salut

There were several artists at revell's.
For Heller, in the 1950's until the early 1980's, that was Paul Lengellé, who was also an official aviation artist for the Musée de l'air.

You said until 1980' ... now I know why they suddenly begin in that time to use images of kits on the box instead of art.

Hi mate,

The use of images of the kit itself on the boxes was the result of a law that obliged the manufacturers to show the product that they sold...
But, as there were "fakes" (for example, the 1/48 scale MiG 25 of Revell the picture on the box showed actually the 1/72 scale kit from Hasegawa...) this law was abandonned and the art pistures were again permitted...

Cheers,

This is Douglas X-3 artwork with ground tractor!
Believe this is a re-issue of the original 'fifties kit from the seventies.
I haver built it many (some 30!) years ago mounted on the half-world globe standard.
Lindberg ever had X-3 kit at 1/48 scale but this was of poor quality.
Also Revell kit was not all too good conform present standards, but in the 'fifties this was of course different!
