This first masking is the simple one, too! However, I did finish protecting the blue and still had time to spray the Dark Earth over coffee:

Thanks, friends!

More coffee, more results. This being the first Typhoon I've built, I had to come up with a new set of masks for it. I simply took the kit instruction sheet (after comparing it to other references) and enlarged the image to 1/48 and cut out the templates. We've all done this method and it worked well on this one, too. The masks were applied with the little rolls of Blu Tak and some tape where needed.

Once the paint was dry and masks removed I wet-sanded the demarcation lines a bit where there was a bit of overspray and prepared the machine for gloss overcoat:

Thanks, this is easy when I use very thin paper to transfer the image to. I've learned about getting the wing roots protected better by cutting the masks to make them lie down more in the angled area.

The most interesting thing about this paint job is that my ModelMaster paint requires the Dark Earth to go on first, then the Middlestone.  was always of the opinion you should paint light first, then dark, but this Testors new formula paint works better the other way 'round. I may try this with the standard grey/green scheme on a Spitfire soon.

Thanks, mate!

Tonight the clear gloss coat was dry and it was time to apply a few decals. I must say, the Hasegawa kit decals were quite brittle and hard to deal with so I've gone to the spares box and am using roundels from a Squadron sheet.
