Good to see that the plastic firmed up, No.1!

Here are a few photos and some background on my first project for this GB.

The airplane is F-84F-51-RE originally given USAF serial 52-7128. It entered service with the KLu as P-115 on 21 July 1956 and was damaged exactly one month later on 21 August. After that the airplane was determined to be beyond airworthy repair and assigned as an instructional airframe at LETS Deelen. There are numerous photos of her on the web at various times as a decoy, on display, etc. The model depicts the airplane during the month it was on flight status with 315 Squadron.

I'd like to especially thank No.1 for sending me the Dutch national insignia. :-flo The rest of the decals came from various remains in the spares, including some from a very old Heller RF-84F sheet that went on perfectly. Second, thanks to Scale Aircraft Conversions for the white metal landing gear kit. :-ok

The pictures are deceptive, No.1 ;)......there is still a mixture of raised panel lines on this with engraved ones where I had to use filler. It's not all that great "in the flesh" so to say. It certainly wouldn't be something to put on a contest table but it I've always wanted a Dutch F-84. Maybe the remaining kit I have could be Belgian, or Greek, or Turkish, or German or..........so many possibilities! :-tri

Thanks Draken!

Go here for a photo of a Golden Crown aerobatic team bird: http://www.iiaf.net/aircraft/jetfighters/F84/f84.html
A decal sheet in 1/72 (also 1/48) here, along with a Yugoslavian version among others: http://www.aircraftresourcecenter.com/ISL/Hi-Decal_Line/1.48/48011-48020/48017_F-84G/HD48017.htm

Thank you, Sall! :-wave

Thanks for info mate :) Now I remember that I see in one old magazine SAM article with images or profiles of Iranian sample. For the Yugoslav sample I would more recommend use of any Balkan Models products ;) They have generic decals good for this

Yes, that is true. I really stumbled upon that decal sheet when researching the Iranian examples.

Speaking of straight-wing F-84s, I started my Tamiya G tonight. I believe I am in love with this kit....... :-love I've been dry-fitting various parts this session and only find one or two tiny areas that might need filler. What a beautiful piece of engineering this is.

The first photo shows a tiny patch of BareMetal Foil applied to see how smooth the surface is out-of-the-box. A touching up with 8000 grit Micromesh should give a very nice surface for foiling. The second photo is just to see how the wing and tip tank fit. The tank sits perfectly against the wingtip when held in place solidly.
