Title: Great Wall T-33 1/48
Post by: Second Air Force on March 02, 2018, 12:56:55 AM
Here is the new T-33 project I'm building for my buddy. I'll talk about it more later, right now just a couple of pictures and I must cook supper!

Yes, it's really a nice kit, so far advanced from the very old T-33s that were produced before. Even the intake ducting is represented in the fuselage. The fit is quite fine so far as I've dry-fitted it and there are lots of details.

Here we go, cockpit assembly and painting is nearly done. Great Wall has built the instrument panels in three pieces, the front with dial faces pre-drilled, a decal with all instruments, and the rear to sandwich it all together. It works quite nicely even though my photos don't show it so well. Then I moved on to the wing and wheelwells, possibly tomorrow night I'll finish the two seats. A word of warning--I usually place the seats into the cockpit after everything is assembled, but these won't fit into the opening! So, seats will be finished and installed in the tub before assembling the two fuselage halves.

Thanks, mates, it's an easy build, I must say.

Just one cup of coffee and the cockpit was installed, fuselage glued together and wing added. The fit is extremely nice with only a little extra work required in a couple of small areas. It won't need much filler, either!

Primer evening finally arrived. This little airplane has been ignored all week but finally got a coat of primer on the seams. It's a good fit and just needs a little filler to finish off the seams.

Almost half a month since my last report, sorry it is so slow.  ADC grey sprayed everywhere now and the paint is drying. Next up will be the flat black anti-glare panels and three or four semi-gloss antenna housings.

Thanks, friends!

It's just Testors Modemaster enamel, but I've sprayed a lot of it on all those F-106s!

Yes, but I had to do a little touching up where the tape lifted the grey. Faulty preparation on my part!

Here are the final photos of the 49th FIS T-33. This is only my second Great Wall kit and both have been quite relaxing to construct, with good fit and nice detailing. I especially like the clarity of the canopy parts on this one, and the decals were also very good to work with.

Hello mates :-salut

>>> Second air force : This model looks really good. Your work is great and the kit iself seems to be very accurate. If still produced I'll search for one to represent one of the Armée de l'air.
Do you know that there has been a total of 207 T-33s serving the AA ? Some of them were Canadair's but most went from US stocks.

Thanks, my friend--this was a nice one to build. Good thing about the Great Wall kits is that they did two versions, the earliest ones and then later built airplanes with different pitot tubes and other details. So, it's easy to pick a particular plane and then get the kit to match. I look forward to you building one!
