Fiat CR.42 Group Build
« on: September 01, 2011, 02:18:05 PM »
Let's get this party started! :-jump
Here are my participants, both marvelous 1/72 Italeri models. Although plastic itself might be sufficient, I've provided Eduard PE zoom sets for both :))
I plan to do attached cammo schemes, although first one shall be treated differently, according to the following: http://www.150gct.it/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=4367, i.e. it shall receive light green coat, as presumed is done on Greek isles

Don't know if I'd get time today to start, since tomorrow early in the morning we're departing for the modeling competition to be held in Senta. Report from there shall of course follow ;). Anyway, progress soon... :-wave

The 1/72 kits from Italeri are as nice as their 1/48 ones :)

I would suggest following references:
[Ali d'Italia n°01] - Fiat CR.42 Falco
[Ali e colori n°01] - Fiat CR.42
[C.M.P.R. (Club Modellismo Plastico Ravenna)] - Colori e Schemi Mimetici della Regia Aeronautica 1935-1943
[Wydawnictwo Militaria n°055] - Fiat CR.42

+ of course, the all-knowing internet... ;)

I haven't any photos yet, but I'll start my Classic Airframes 1/48 kit today.

I'm finding the Classic Airframes kit is pretty fun to work with! It doesn't look like it has any great pitfalls so far and the parts really seem to fit pretty nicely except the windscreen is a bit wider than the fuselage where it joins. It'll be easy to fix that problem, though. Hopefully I'll get some pictures taken of progress yet this weekend in between two LLL Magazine projects.......

I'm afraid that I will not participate that time... Too much work actually; too much kits to build and review...

As a good source of documentation, I recommend you the Mushroom book 8104 "Fiat CR42 Falco" from Przemislaw Skulski: very complete...

I reckon I should mention that I'm building a Swedish J-11 for this GB. I'm still wavering on the actual scheme and aircraft number but will try to get some work done this weekend.

I started a little bit of the cockpit assembly on mine tonight. Then I taped the fuselage halves together to test-fit the cockpit tub. The cockpit is resin and photoetch (nicely done by Eduard) and appears to be fairly easy to assemble--the seat took just minutes to bend up and assemble.

Interior parts painted in grey and I make some highlight of details in rough form.
