Yep, this one will be finished as a QF-106A drone. In fact, it will represent 59-0083 that I built for my friend earlier in this thread (the in-flight machine). When the 49th FIS was disbanded most of their airplanes were flown to Davis Monthan for storage and many of them were later converted to drones and expended in weapons testing.

Thanks!

The former crew chief of 083 isn't quite as excited about me building his old airplane as a drone--it was his first airplane when he was assigned to the 49th. He's told me (several times) that when he got the airplane it was looking dirty and needed painting. He got permission to sand and prepare the entire airplane and then the paint department resprayed the machine for him. The photos of it at the end of its service life (and as a drone) all show his paint job. Understandably he wasn't too happy to find that 083 ended up in the Gulf of Mexico, shot down by the USAF!!!!

I've spent a good amount of time looking through the spares boxes for the landing gear parts for this Dart. It seems I've used some linkages in other projects over the years (this was taken apart when we moved in 1988) so it was time to move to an alternate solution--a set of SAC landing gear. These are for the Trumpeter kit but will easily be adaptable to the old Monogram kit:

Also the Air Defense Command grey found its way onto the airframe:
