Egg plane: Mirage III/5 (kit: RetroWings)
« on: March 11, 2015, 05:11:58 PM »
Some times ago, I showed you the master I was creating for a Mirage 5BA for RetrokiT:
http://www.letletlet-warplanes.com/forum/makete-aviona-aircraft-modeling/egg-mirage-v-ba/

Once finished, I sent the master to my friend Domi. On its side he realised cockpit interior but also the parts needed to make other versions of the Mirage III/5...

So, buying that egg plane you will have the possibility to build one of 7 different versions:
- Mirage IIIE of the Spanish Air Force
- Mirage IIIRD of the French Air Force
- Mirage 5PA of the Pakistan Air Force
- Mirage 5P of the Peruvian Air Force
- Mirage 5BR of the Belgian Air Force
- Nesher (Mirage 5J) of the Israeli Air Force
- Dagger A of the Argentine Air Force

Decals for all those versions are available in the box kit. There were made by my other friend Rob Haelterman and printed by Aleran.

First thing to say is that some parts are very fine and fragile. Pitot tubes on the four available noses are in particular very fragile and you will better have to replace them by stronger elements - That's what I will do...

Here are the photos of the kit. Actually the parts are placed in water with wash product...

I agree, this looks like fun!

I simply am amazed at the progress that has occurred in the molding process since we quit our resin business! Those pitot tubes are so well cast and thin, also the ejection seat handles!

Sure Scott, there is a very nice evolution in molding for resin. But with the counterpart that sometimes parts are too tiny and easily breakable...

Anyway: today, I've prepared the canopy. I've used the resin master as a solid support, using Tamiya tape to block the clear part. Then with a razor blade I've removed the rear support. Then tamiya tape again, to block the rear and I've removed the front support. Tamiya tape again, and finally I've removed the lateral supports...

I'm building a Spanish IIIE. Choice was decided with my friend Rob, to let him to build the Belgian 5BR. Better to present different versions, for Domi...
I've removed the resin pitot and replaced it by a needle...

The tail have to be modified for the Spanish Mirage (also for the French and Belgian ones) by removing the extremity. I've also created a part that must take place under the fuselage; and glued some parts...

First application of putty. Some corrections are needed... But all is going fine.
