Title: Eduard Super44 MiG-21 MF
Post by: draken35 on November 24, 2011, 09:15:33 PM
I have received my box of that kit, that I will begin in the next few days.

First impressions is: amazing!!! So little parts, but so fine and well-detailed and a splendid decal sheet!

The box contains two kits. Will build one, and reserve the second one for decals to come...  ;)

Not really hard work, but I've begun to remove the parts from sprue. At first regard, fitting seems great and the parts are really splendid!!!

I hope I can build faster than for my Hellcat... And yes, looks to be an easy build. I'm impressed by the quality of that tiny things...

Good Daniel! ;) It is very good kit. This is 1/144,sooo... This is excellent!!
David Zvezda MiG-21Bis 1/72 is excellent,so no need for some other product in that scale. ;) Also Zvezda have MIG-21PFM in 1/72,also excellent kit. Revell had MiG-21 F-13,also beautiful kit,but hard to find. Maybe on e-bay. ;)

I have the bis version by Zvezda, might go for the PFM. Revell should reissue their F-13 though :(

PFM is also hard to find. Try on ebay for both. ;)

1/144 always seems a compromise, but its a good way to have a collection if space is limited.
Title: Re: Eduard Super44 MiG-21 MF
Post by: draken35 on December 26, 2011, 05:07:28 PM
Now that the Hellcat is finished, I can work on all my MiG's!!!

I've removed the parts from sprue, chosen the decos and the armament for each aircraft.
Decos: one will be East German, with open canopy; the second one will be Russian (with closed canopy)

The parts are very fine and tiny. So tiny that I've broken the canopy of the "Russian"... Reparation was made of course but it's slightly visible (not too much given the size) - I have to insist of the fact that Eduard is not responsible, I'm guilty...

To be noted that the nose antenna is provided in two exemplars (four for two kits). Good idea because to remove it from sprue asks for attention and patience (I've not broken those antennas; having broken one canopy some minutes ago let me very careful) ;)

Thank you!

Some work today:

First, the tapes on the canopy were removed and replaced by other ones; I made a mistake (the protuberance on the canopy haves to be painted)

Then, masking of the fuselage interior, for next painting phase

Then, airbrushing of Neutral Grey

And finally, a little bit of green...

Excellent!

I see my "radome green" is near to the same shade as yours. That was a hard one for me to mix up from the paints I could find here.
Title: Re: Eduard Super44 MiG-21 MF
Post by: draken35 on January 04, 2012, 07:46:34 PM
Thank you all!

Not so much time for modeling today; it was a hard day at the office...

First, if I decided to build that kit out-of-the-box, I must say that I was intriguated by the fact Eduard  ask for painting in Gunze H308 (grey). So I verified on their site, the instructions for their 1/48th scale kit that recommends H26 green... I preferred to use H26.

I have also placed a drop of the cockpit interior color on the protuberance of the canopy from the kit I will build "open"

I have assembled the instrument panel on the floor

A little bit of Boltgun Metal on the train

And, finally, grey on the seat.[

Title: Re: Eduard Super44 MiG-21 MF
Post by: draken35 on January 07, 2012, 04:19:04 PM
Lot of little actions today:

First, airbrushing of steel; then paintbrushing of grey in the front wheel compratment
Placing of the cockpit elements
The nose cone
Gluing of the half fuselages
Placing of the seat
Interior of wheel compartments
Assembling fuselage/wings
Ailerons
Canopies are placed
Armament supports under the wings
And my "personal putty" where needed.

When I made dry fitting tests, the cone fitted well in the fuselage without any jointure. The simple thickness of the paint provoked such a jointure...

I have also decided not to build a Russian aircraft but a Czech (modern camo) one; just because I'm awaiting for the SMT combo box and this last one includes Russian aircrafts only... So, a Czech will add a little bit of variety ;)

No I don't think, it's Gunze one... I have Agama metal paints that can be polished, but I find the kit is too tiny to put that paint on it (you have to put the paint with tissue or Q-tip)

Hope you will be happy, Sall ;)

They came smoothly, absolutely no problem to place them on the aircrafts. Great and relaxing moment...

Yes, decals are very nice and fine.

Today I've airbrushed Pébéo gloss varnish. Next step will be oil wash...

I have airbrushed Pébéo matt varnish, then time to glue the little parts (wheels, wheel bays, external stores) and... FINISHED!!!

That was a real funny and enjoyable build. I like thos tiny birds. Eduard realised a stunning, amazing job. See the photos: my 1 euro coin is the only thing that can prove that kits are so "minis"... They have a terrific look and they are like real MiG's are!!!

Very Very nice! :-ok They do look as good as larger scale kits, which is often not the case with these smaller kits. You have done a great job on what look to be great kits!
