Title: Eduard S.P.A.D. S.XIII Dual Combo 1/72
Post by: Profa on June 21, 2009, 04:13:38 PM
Our dear friend Old No.1 has started this build long time ago ... You can see it here: http://www.letletlet-warplanes.com/forum/makete-aviona-aircraft-modeling/spad-xii-early-eduard-172/.
Lately he has decided to give up and had sent it to me so I could give it a try... Thank You once and again! :-flo
Here are original Eduards' packaging and my gift:
(http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa189/jaka013/projekti/EDU_Spad_S-XIII/th_Spad_00.jpg) (http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa189/jaka013/projekti/EDU_Spad_S-XIII/Spad_00.jpg)(http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa189/jaka013/projekti/EDU_Spad_S-XIII/th_Spad_00a1.jpg) (http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa189/jaka013/projekti/EDU_Spad_S-XIII/Spad_00a1.jpg)

I intend to build planes of Georges Guynemer and Francesco Baracca:
(http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa189/jaka013/projekti/EDU_Spad_S-XIII/th_Spad_100.jpg) (http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa189/jaka013/projekti/EDU_Spad_S-XIII/Spad_100.jpg)(http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa189/jaka013/projekti/EDU_Spad_S-XIII/th_Spad_200.jpg) (http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa189/jaka013/projekti/EDU_Spad_S-XIII/Spad_200.jpg)

Wanted to take pictures before the start but Canon decided to leave me dry :-wall - I couldn't wait for batteries to recharge :-/ so here is my woodwork. No.1 had already painted everything in base sail color:
(http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa189/jaka013/projekti/EDU_Spad_S-XIII/th_Spad_102.jpg) (http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa189/jaka013/projekti/EDU_Spad_S-XIII/Spad_102.jpg)(http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa189/jaka013/projekti/EDU_Spad_S-XIII/th_Spad_103.jpg) (http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa189/jaka013/projekti/EDU_Spad_S-XIII/Spad_103.jpg)(http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa189/jaka013/projekti/EDU_Spad_S-XIII/th_Spad_104.jpg) (http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa189/jaka013/projekti/EDU_Spad_S-XIII/Spad_104.jpg)(http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa189/jaka013/projekti/EDU_Spad_S-XIII/th_Spad_105.jpg) (http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa189/jaka013/projekti/EDU_Spad_S-XIII/Spad_105.jpg)(http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa189/jaka013/projekti/EDU_Spad_S-XIII/th_Spad_106.jpg) (http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa189/jaka013/projekti/EDU_Spad_S-XIII/Spad_106.jpg)
It looks much better in nature than in Canon's macro-mode...

The other one is, as seen in mentioned post, already assembled and partialy painted:
(http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa189/jaka013/projekti/EDU_Spad_S-XIII/th_Spad_201.jpg) (http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa189/jaka013/projekti/EDU_Spad_S-XIII/Spad_201.jpg)(http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa189/jaka013/projekti/EDU_Spad_S-XIII/th_Spad_202.jpg) (http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa189/jaka013/projekti/EDU_Spad_S-XIII/Spad_202.jpg)(http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa189/jaka013/projekti/EDU_Spad_S-XIII/th_Spad_204.jpg) (http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa189/jaka013/projekti/EDU_Spad_S-XIII/Spad_204.jpg)(http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa189/jaka013/projekti/EDU_Spad_S-XIII/th_Spad_205.jpg) (http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa189/jaka013/projekti/EDU_Spad_S-XIII/Spad_205.jpg)(http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa189/jaka013/projekti/EDU_Spad_S-XIII/th_Spad_206.jpg) (http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa189/jaka013/projekti/EDU_Spad_S-XIII/Spad_206.jpg)

Unfortunatelly this has to be cleaned in Mr. Musculo so I could paint it fresh, although it looks marvelous...

My further works on the cockpit:
(http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa189/jaka013/projekti/EDU_Spad_S-XIII/th_Spad_107.jpg) (http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa189/jaka013/projekti/EDU_Spad_S-XIII/Spad_107.jpg)(http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa189/jaka013/projekti/EDU_Spad_S-XIII/th_Spad_108.jpg) (http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa189/jaka013/projekti/EDU_Spad_S-XIII/Spad_108.jpg)(http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa189/jaka013/projekti/EDU_Spad_S-XIII/th_Spad_109.jpg) (http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa189/jaka013/projekti/EDU_Spad_S-XIII/Spad_109.jpg)(http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa189/jaka013/projekti/EDU_Spad_S-XIII/th_Spad_110.jpg) (http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa189/jaka013/projekti/EDU_Spad_S-XIII/Spad_110.jpg)(http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa189/jaka013/projekti/EDU_Spad_S-XIII/th_Spad_111.jpg) (http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa189/jaka013/projekti/EDU_Spad_S-XIII/Spad_111.jpg)
It's ready for the assembly...

Fuselage assembly gave me some headache - never had so much problems with fitting of Eduard part :-dal...
Inner side of the upper part had to be sanded because it collided with instruments on the dashboard:
(http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa189/jaka013/projekti/EDU_Spad_S-XIII/th_Spad_112.jpg) (http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa189/jaka013/projekti/EDU_Spad_S-XIII/Spad_112.jpg)
Here is completed bottom part of fuselage with dashboard inserted:
(http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa189/jaka013/projekti/EDU_Spad_S-XIII/th_Spad_113.jpg) (http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa189/jaka013/projekti/EDU_Spad_S-XIII/Spad_113.jpg)(http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa189/jaka013/projekti/EDU_Spad_S-XIII/th_Spad_114.jpg) (http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa189/jaka013/projekti/EDU_Spad_S-XIII/Spad_114.jpg)
Completed fuselage: it would require some corrections:
(http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa189/jaka013/projekti/EDU_Spad_S-XIII/th_Spad_115.jpg) (http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa189/jaka013/projekti/EDU_Spad_S-XIII/Spad_115.jpg)(http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa189/jaka013/projekti/EDU_Spad_S-XIII/th_Spad_116.jpg) (http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa189/jaka013/projekti/EDU_Spad_S-XIII/Spad_116.jpg)

Until next installment... :-wave

It took me some time, but here is current look of these beauties:

Guynemer's (some more paint layers, and it really looks nice):
(http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa189/jaka013/projekti/EDU_Spad_S-XIII/th_Spad_117.jpg) (http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa189/jaka013/projekti/EDU_Spad_S-XIII/Spad_117.jpg)(http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa189/jaka013/projekti/EDU_Spad_S-XIII/th_Spad_118.jpg) (http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa189/jaka013/projekti/EDU_Spad_S-XIII/Spad_118.jpg)

Baracca's mount had to take a bath in Mr. Musculo :(, and now I started painting it...
(http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa189/jaka013/projekti/EDU_Spad_S-XIII/th_Spad_207.jpg) (http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa189/jaka013/projekti/EDU_Spad_S-XIII/Spad_207.jpg)(http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa189/jaka013/projekti/EDU_Spad_S-XIII/th_Spad_208.jpg) (http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa189/jaka013/projekti/EDU_Spad_S-XIII/Spad_208.jpg)

Really slow, but it moves (along with other projects I'm in)...
Metal parts, undercarriage and other parts of Guynemer's plane that had to recieved 2 layers of Humbrol 94 (pictures were taken after 1st one)
(http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa189/jaka013/projekti/EDU_Spad_S-XIII/th_Spad_119.jpg) (http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa189/jaka013/projekti/EDU_Spad_S-XIII/Spad_119.jpg)(http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa189/jaka013/projekti/EDU_Spad_S-XIII/th_Spad_121.jpg) (http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa189/jaka013/projekti/EDU_Spad_S-XIII/Spad_121.jpg)

Forgot to mask-off over-wing tanks, this's done and has yet to be painted. Tomorrow evening, I believe... Then I'll also correct some minor errors and move on to struts. These were, after my recognition of B&W photos, made of wood of some lighter shade - therefore I'll paint them like fuselage and interior of Albatroses - combination of Hu 148 and 110.

Changed my mind regarding struts:
(http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa189/jaka013/projekti/EDU_Spad_S-XIII/th_Spad_123.jpg) (http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa189/jaka013/projekti/EDU_Spad_S-XIII/Spad_123.jpg)
Propeller has recieved only first layer of wood texture, after the second one it's going to be nice and shiny :-love
It's almost prepared for assembly - going to be quick, I hope :)  :-wave

Non dimenticare nostro ace Italiano - Baracca's mount has recieved tricolore on the lower surface and first layer of vert clair on upper parts:
(http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa189/jaka013/projekti/EDU_Spad_S-XIII/th_Spad_209.jpg) (http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa189/jaka013/projekti/EDU_Spad_S-XIII/Spad_209.jpg)(http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa189/jaka013/projekti/EDU_Spad_S-XIII/th_Spad_210.jpg) (http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa189/jaka013/projekti/EDU_Spad_S-XIII/Spad_210.jpg)(http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa189/jaka013/projekti/EDU_Spad_S-XIII/th_Spad_211.jpg) (http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa189/jaka013/projekti/EDU_Spad_S-XIII/Spad_211.jpg)
This is going to be painted after research of http://www.unosettantadue.net/content/view/35/70/lang,it/, which is unfortunatelly now temporarily unavailable :-roll

Gyunemer's machine is slowly turning into an airplane - I've attached lower wings. Although I read some reviews on the net, claiming there are big gaps which has to be filled, I didn't find nothing extremely bad:
(http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa189/jaka013/projekti/EDU_Spad_S-XIII/th_Spad_124.jpg) (http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa189/jaka013/projekti/EDU_Spad_S-XIII/Spad_124.jpg)(http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa189/jaka013/projekti/EDU_Spad_S-XIII/th_Spad_125.jpg) (http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa189/jaka013/projekti/EDU_Spad_S-XIII/Spad_125.jpg)
To be continued... :-wave

A little bit of oil wash (diluted mix of black and burnt umber), to accentuate recesses and panel lines:
(http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa189/jaka013/projekti/EDU_Spad_S-XIII/th_Spad_126.jpg) (http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa189/jaka013/projekti/EDU_Spad_S-XIII/Spad_126.jpg)(http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa189/jaka013/projekti/EDU_Spad_S-XIII/th_Spad_127.jpg) (http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa189/jaka013/projekti/EDU_Spad_S-XIII/Spad_127.jpg)(http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa189/jaka013/projekti/EDU_Spad_S-XIII/th_Spad_128.jpg) (http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa189/jaka013/projekti/EDU_Spad_S-XIII/Spad_128.jpg)(http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa189/jaka013/projekti/EDU_Spad_S-XIII/th_Spad_129.jpg) (http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa189/jaka013/projekti/EDU_Spad_S-XIII/Spad_129.jpg)
Off to wing wash - I used the same mix...
During the drying (some 30 minutes)...
(http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa189/jaka013/projekti/EDU_Spad_S-XIII/th_Spad_130.jpg) (http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa189/jaka013/projekti/EDU_Spad_S-XIII/Spad_130.jpg)(http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa189/jaka013/projekti/EDU_Spad_S-XIII/th_Spad_131.jpg) (http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa189/jaka013/projekti/EDU_Spad_S-XIII/Spad_131.jpg)(http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa189/jaka013/projekti/EDU_Spad_S-XIII/th_Spad_132.jpg) (http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa189/jaka013/projekti/EDU_Spad_S-XIII/Spad_132.jpg)
...and after:

Thank you all for kind words :-flo, I'll try to keep up with expectations :-roll

Eduard's decals gave me really a hard time - they were tearing when least expected...
(http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa189/jaka013/projekti/EDU_Spad_S-XIII/th_Spad_138.jpg) (http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa189/jaka013/projekti/EDU_Spad_S-XIII/Spad_138.jpg)
Anyway, I finished wings and tail decaling and did one coat of flat cote (which is not flat at all, as I expected):
(http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa189/jaka013/projekti/EDU_Spad_S-XIII/th_Spad_139.jpg) (http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa189/jaka013/projekti/EDU_Spad_S-XIII/Spad_139.jpg)(http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa189/jaka013/projekti/EDU_Spad_S-XIII/th_Spad_140.jpg) (http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa189/jaka013/projekti/EDU_Spad_S-XIII/Spad_140.jpg)(http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa189/jaka013/projekti/EDU_Spad_S-XIII/th_Spad_141.jpg) (http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa189/jaka013/projekti/EDU_Spad_S-XIII/Spad_141.jpg)

Colour masks for Baracca's plane are cut according to available drawings:
(http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa189/jaka013/projekti/EDU_Spad_S-XIII/th_Spad_213.jpg) (http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa189/jaka013/projekti/EDU_Spad_S-XIII/Spad_213.jpg)(http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa189/jaka013/projekti/EDU_Spad_S-XIII/th_Spad_214.jpg) (http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa189/jaka013/projekti/EDU_Spad_S-XIII/Spad_214.jpg)

Different stages of painting:
(http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa189/jaka013/projekti/EDU_Spad_S-XIII/th_Spad_215.jpg) (http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa189/jaka013/projekti/EDU_Spad_S-XIII/Spad_215.jpg)(http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa189/jaka013/projekti/EDU_Spad_S-XIII/th_Spad_218.jpg) (http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa189/jaka013/projekti/EDU_Spad_S-XIII/Spad_218.jpg)(http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa189/jaka013/projekti/EDU_Spad_S-XIII/th_Spad_221.jpg) (http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa189/jaka013/projekti/EDU_Spad_S-XIII/Spad_221.jpg)

Painting is finished, and I started working on decals
(http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa189/jaka013/projekti/EDU_Spad_S-XIII/th_Spad_225.jpg) (http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa189/jaka013/projekti/EDU_Spad_S-XIII/Spad_225.jpg)(http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa189/jaka013/projekti/EDU_Spad_S-XIII/th_Spad_226.jpg) (http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa189/jaka013/projekti/EDU_Spad_S-XIII/Spad_226.jpg)(http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa189/jaka013/projekti/EDU_Spad_S-XIII/th_Spad_227.jpg) (http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa189/jaka013/projekti/EDU_Spad_S-XIII/Spad_227.jpg)

Now to correct decals with paint and tiny brush... The work continues  :-wave

Ever mentioned fragile decals? Well, this fragility goes beyond expectations, even with all the attention given to careful work... :-/
(http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa189/jaka013/projekti/EDU_Spad_S-XIII/th_Spad_142.jpg) (http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa189/jaka013/projekti/EDU_Spad_S-XIII/Spad_142.jpg)
This is another one, still in the water...
(http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa189/jaka013/projekti/EDU_Spad_S-XIII/th_Spad_143.jpg) (http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa189/jaka013/projekti/EDU_Spad_S-XIII/Spad_143.jpg)
...and after taking it out and putting it to the fuselage:
(http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa189/jaka013/projekti/EDU_Spad_S-XIII/th_Spad_144.jpg) (http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa189/jaka013/projekti/EDU_Spad_S-XIII/Spad_144.jpg)

I said to myself "patience, patience, patience..." and counted a couple of hundreds, ignoring the urge to throw everything...
This is what it looks like after liberate use of setting solution... Now I have to wait for it to settle:
(http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa189/jaka013/projekti/EDU_Spad_S-XIII/th_Spad_145.jpg) (http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa189/jaka013/projekti/EDU_Spad_S-XIII/Spad_145.jpg)(http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa189/jaka013/projekti/EDU_Spad_S-XIII/th_Spad_146.jpg) (http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa189/jaka013/projekti/EDU_Spad_S-XIII/Spad_146.jpg)(http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa189/jaka013/projekti/EDU_Spad_S-XIII/th_Spad_147.jpg) (http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa189/jaka013/projekti/EDU_Spad_S-XIII/Spad_147.jpg)
On the lighter side - Italian went pretty well, and now "Cavallino rampante" is in its place  :-love

The disaster strucks, or how to ruin the plane...

I have coated wings in Humbrol sprey matt cote, which is really dead flat, which I love. Some strange things happened, though - those small specs underneath the roundels :-think Thied to fix them with Q-tip, and the other picture shows the look - nothing too bad, but there are needed some corrections:
(http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa189/jaka013/projekti/EDU_Spad_S-XIII/th_Spad_149.jpg) (http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa189/jaka013/projekti/EDU_Spad_S-XIII/Spad_149.jpg)(http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa189/jaka013/projekti/EDU_Spad_S-XIII/th_Spad_150.jpg) (http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa189/jaka013/projekti/EDU_Spad_S-XIII/Spad_150.jpg)
On the good side, here's the differnece between gloss and mat surface:
(http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa189/jaka013/projekti/EDU_Spad_S-XIII/th_Spad_148.jpg) (http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa189/jaka013/projekti/EDU_Spad_S-XIII/Spad_148.jpg)

Then I went on and coated lower fuselage and wings. There was a reason to concern, it seems that this sprey cote lifts the paint:
(http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa189/jaka013/projekti/EDU_Spad_S-XIII/th_Spad_151.jpg) (http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa189/jaka013/projekti/EDU_Spad_S-XIII/Spad_151.jpg)

Ah, nothing too bad, I thought, and continued stubbornly to mask and coat also upper fuselage. This is when the real disaster struck :-wall :-wall:
(http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa189/jaka013/projekti/EDU_Spad_S-XIII/th_Spad_152.jpg) (http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa189/jaka013/projekti/EDU_Spad_S-XIII/Spad_152.jpg)(http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa189/jaka013/projekti/EDU_Spad_S-XIII/th_Spad_153.jpg) (http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa189/jaka013/projekti/EDU_Spad_S-XIII/Spad_153.jpg)

It even got under the mask and ruined the part around cockpit, which I planned to be semi-gloss. Now have to find the way to fix it...  :-think :-wall :-think

Well, after a short break, which lasted a liitle more over a year :-roll, it was time to move on...
Most of the ruined paint is restored, carefully painting over in almost drybrush technique, and struts were next...
In the box I received only 5 of original 8 outer interplane struts (4 for each plane), so I had to do a little scratchbuilding from sheet styrene:
(http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa189/jaka013/projekti/EDU_Spad_S-XIII/th_Spad_212.jpg) (http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa189/jaka013/projekti/EDU_Spad_S-XIII/Spad_212.jpg)(http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa189/jaka013/projekti/EDU_Spad_S-XIII/th_Spad_154.jpg) (http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa189/jaka013/projekti/EDU_Spad_S-XIII/Spad_154.jpg)

Then came the wood paint, which is, like earlier, simulated by going with dark brown over linen colour. At the same time propellers received another layer.
Next was painting of reinforcing tapes on the struts – for this I used Vallejo acrylic dark flesh paint, and the process of painting took me a little more than 30 minutes – not counting in more than one hour of preparation – measuring and drawing the template seen on the paper:
(http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa189/jaka013/projekti/EDU_Spad_S-XIII/th_Spad_155.jpg) (http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa189/jaka013/projekti/EDU_Spad_S-XIII/Spad_155.jpg)(http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa189/jaka013/projekti/EDU_Spad_S-XIII/th_Spad_156.jpg) (http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa189/jaka013/projekti/EDU_Spad_S-XIII/Spad_156.jpg)(http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa189/jaka013/projekti/EDU_Spad_S-XIII/th_Spad_157.jpg) (http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa189/jaka013/projekti/EDU_Spad_S-XIII/Spad_157.jpg)

Now I'm really in to finish them soon :-jump :-wave

Unfortunatelly, Guynemer's plane won't be a prime-class model :-/, but I'll be always happy to see it on the shelf, since he's one of the pilots I admire most...
As the matter of fact, his Nieuport 17 is also in the building process ;) but that's for another topic...
Title: Re: Eduard S.P.A.D. S.XIII Dual Combo 1/72

Yesterday I played a little bit:
(http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa189/jaka013/projekti/EDU_Spad_S-XIII/th_Spad_158.jpg) (http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa189/jaka013/projekti/EDU_Spad_S-XIII/Spad_158.jpg)

...and this morning everything was prepared for the most fearsome operation – making a biplane:
(http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa189/jaka013/projekti/EDU_Spad_S-XIII/th_Spad_160.jpg) (http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa189/jaka013/projekti/EDU_Spad_S-XIII/Spad_160.jpg)

First I mounted inner interplane struts, then cabane struts, and at the end outer interplane struts...
Here I've used scratchbuilt outer struts mentioned before, but it seems I made them just a little shorter than needed... Therefore lower wing bent a little :-wall This I corrected by disassembling inner struts, trimming them and putting them back on, with everything else left in place. Luckily I used CA glue for this assembly, so parts were not melt together and the operation was easy to do.
Didn't notice it, but it took me something more than 3 hours to get the following result:
(http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa189/jaka013/projekti/EDU_Spad_S-XIII/th_Spad_161.jpg) (http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa189/jaka013/projekti/EDU_Spad_S-XIII/Spad_161.jpg)(http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa189/jaka013/projekti/EDU_Spad_S-XIII/th_Spad_162.jpg) (http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa189/jaka013/projekti/EDU_Spad_S-XIII/Spad_162.jpg)

A "dihedral" is still there, although not as big as before, but that's something I'd have to live with... :-roll
Actually the biggest problem was mounting that PE part behind outer struts – somehow I simply couldn't get it strong enough with tweezers, and it just kept slipping...

Something about my tools of the trade for this operation:
(http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa189/jaka013/projekti/skola/th_alatmala.jpg) (http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa189/jaka013/projekti/skola/alatmala.jpg)
From top:
- tweezers – the only ones I use – were used by my dad, were made in Czechoslovakia  :-roll Very old, but really reliable
- the best tool for adding CA glue – »the eye of the needle« keeps really small amounts, and I bring it right to the point where I need it
- ever tried to move part some part that is already glued for just a width of the hair? This is the best tool to do it... ;)
with this I moved strut ends into the guide holes in the wing, pressed lower ends of cabane struts into the fuselage...
- needle – another way of introducing CA glue to the point, but with this you can also draw thin lines
- the bottom one I think I don't have to represent :))

So, the stage is set for tomorrows' play :-think:
(http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa189/jaka013/projekti/EDU_Spad_S-XIII/th_Spad_230.jpg) (http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa189/jaka013/projekti/EDU_Spad_S-XIII/Spad_230.jpg)

Working the same way as yesterday, and learning from my own mistakes, I was quickier today:

Also have checked if I became rusty in »threading« wires :-think:

... no, not a sign of rust on my hands and tweezers ;)

Yesterday in the evening I started "wiring" Guynemer's plane, and after one hour this was the result:
(http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa189/jaka013/projekti/EDU_Spad_S-XIII/th_Spad_166.jpg) (http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa189/jaka013/projekti/EDU_Spad_S-XIII/Spad_166.jpg)(http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa189/jaka013/projekti/EDU_Spad_S-XIII/th_Spad_168.jpg) (http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa189/jaka013/projekti/EDU_Spad_S-XIII/Spad_168.jpg)

For this morning I've left right wing. First thread went well, and then, just starting the second thread, while trying to keep both ends of the thread using one finger, I've pressed wings together with second hand just a little too much - the upper wing went astray and everything broke :-wall :-wall :-wall Furthermore, elastomere was pulling what was left attached, bending it, so I couldn't fix struts because it would just like to follow the elastomere. Therefore I just separated everything and cleaned off the elastomere:
(http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa189/jaka013/projekti/EDU_Spad_S-XIII/th_Spad_169.jpg) (http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa189/jaka013/projekti/EDU_Spad_S-XIII/Spad_169.jpg)

Excersizing extreme patience in order not to throw another model to the bin (for the second time in just one week !!!), I've put it back to the box to cool down - not the model to cool, actually, but me...

With this settled, I've decided there's no point in rushing to finish anything for Zrenjanin competition (07.05) :-/, and that now there's just a room to start building Fokkers a liitle earlier than planned :-roll

That is the answer why these things usually happens. Never rush to finish a kit for competition, you will never get it right.

I didn't rush to finish it, only now, after this mishap, it would require quite a rush to fix everything back and return to the yesterday evenings' starting position...

Don't let this kind of things let you down. I recently dropped a brazilian Waco CSO to the ground (a very rare resin kit, to rub salt on the wound), while taking pictures of it. Nasty little habit I have, that of dropping modeling items (kits, tools, you name it) but I've come to live with it. You just have to be a bit more careful while moving around a model kit and that's it. If I learnt to do it, sure you can.

Besides that, I love the way your kits are being finished. Really cool.

Take the SPAD out of the box, give it a look and I'm sure you'll find the way to fix it. How about the Baracca machine?

Thanks for kind words, Javier - I've just put it to the box to cool down a little, give myself some more trouble with Rodens' Fokkers, and than to return and finally finish these. Baracca's mount is in the same box, although in far better shape, and waits as well...
Also Albatros dual build is to be finished afterwards (if I don't start anything new, that is :-think)
