Title: Bordurian Messerschmitt Bf 109
Post by: draken35 on August 26, 2017, 08:55:40 PM
Once again, great work made by Dominique Jadoul that created a conversion set for a Bordurian Bf 109.
...Where is Borduria? Well, read Tin Tin  :-green
Neighbourg country and enemy of Syldavia...

The conversion set was designed to fit with any Bf 109F from AZ Models.
If you read Tin Tin, you will see some difference between the actual Bf 109F and the Bordurian one: a fixed tail wheel, lack of underwings radiators; front fuselage similar to the one of a Bf 109B; three-bladed prop with a gun outlet in his centre and exhausts stack with only 5 pipes.

The Bf 109F kit from AZ is very nice like all their Bf 109 serie. Here are all the parts of the kit and of course those of the conversion set

Work begins with the cut-off of radiators and the assembly of wings. Some panel lines must be filled (yellow arrows) and another one must be created (red arrow)

Then the elements of the conversion set that replace the radiators are glued and the central area of the AZ Model wings is cut off and discarded.
I have also incorporated the instrument panel in the RetroSF fuselage...

Hmmm.....Bordurians must have figured out that the chin radiator was more to their liking, especially with the V-10 engine variation!

Hi,  :-salut

Bordurian Bf 109 in "Le sceptre d'Ottokar"... Great story. In the first version of this story the plane resembled a He 118... and national markings were different.

True my friend, in the first edition the aircraft was different from the one of the reedition of 1947.
To be noted too that the first dictator of Borduria was called "Müsstler", a contraction of Mussolini and Hitler. It's later that "Plekszy Gladz" and his infamous moustache became tle country leader...

Anyway, little progress with the base paint. I also envisage to use two 1/72 Preiser Luftwaffe figures; a pilot and a mechanic. Just an idea...

A little bit of putty needed. Not too much I must say...

The spinner had some lack of matter, that were revealed by the primer. Cyano to fill the gaps then sanding. It's OK now...

OK, I was out of the hobby since a long time due to theatre play (my daughter played and I was in charge of the photos).
Time to resume now: primer airbrushed this morning

Things become serious now: I've airbrushed Light Grey (Tamiya XF-66). With that kit I will try a new technique, airbrushing some panels in lighter grey and other ones in darker grey before to use XF-66 again but very diluted

Third green: Tamiya XF-81 Dark Green.
Then I've airbrushed XF-66 again, but heavily diluted, on all the upper surfaces and finally I've removed all the masks

Decals in place...

As those decals have no protection film, I've used Microscale Liquid Decal film.
Unfortunately a bad reaction occured (not too visible on the photos). Strange; it's the first time such a thing occurs with that product...

Yes I think decal solution is the cause. Domi will send me a new set of decals so I will replace the actual ones in the next few days

Replacement decals arrived today.
I have also removed the exhaust pipes because alignment was not good enough. Replaced the pipes with Evergreen...

For the first time I've used "Weathering Wash" from Flory Models: excellent!
You apply the wash on the aircraft; let it dry for 1/4h then with a wet towel you remove the product...

Thank you my friend!

Yesterday I have airbrushed matt varnish (Pébéo). Insomnias during the night so I go to the workbench and finished the assembly of the kit...
And this morning, use of MiG pigments to finish the kit...

I'm happy with the result. Using oil paints for weathering was a good idea; Will do that again but as I see I can use stronger contrast with the camo. Anyway, I'm really happy with that build! :))
