Here are a few more photos of the E-1. The markings are those of then-Oberleutnant Joseph Priller at the time of the Polish invasion. He was then Gruppen Adjutant of I/JG51. The lower wing markings are the oversized version that were painted on after friendly-fire incidents during the conflict.

I've mentioned it several times during this build--I highly recommend this offering from Airfix if you wish to build a 1/48 Bf 109E. It's fun to construct and the fit is really excellent.

I found another of the little Airfix Emils on sale so I'll be doing another E-1 here. The cockpit is finished and the fuselage joined with the wing, all in the space of an hour or so. This is an out-of-box build with just some seatbelts added.

Good one mate :)) Did Airfix have different wing bottom as well E-1 have machine guns in wings?

Yes, No.1 there are optional parts. The leading edge is cut out so you can add the part for either the MG 17 or MG FF cannon. Then you must open a locating hole in the lower wing panel for the breech fairing for the cannon. In fact, I'm building this airplane with the MG FFs. In my photo you can see the red filler where the optional leading edge parts are installed. These two parts have a bit of a fit problem but this is easily fixed with some putty. They are also the only two real fit problems on the whole kit.

I mentioned the quality of this model when I built the Priller machine, but I'll restate it: This is a fantastically relaxing model to build. When you open the box and look at the sprues it seems almost toylike because the fuselage and wing walls are rather thick, but this is only an illusion. It's just a relaxing model to construct and looks the part of a Bf-109 when finished. They also seem to go on sale here in the States frequently--I paid less than $15.00 for this one.

This one is also nice for considering with bottom in RLM 65, top in Italian sand and spot in RLM 80  :-flo

I wonder what the unit number or marking was on that airplane? I've thought about doing an E-7 and that one was on my list. :-flo This kit includes all the parts to build a -7 Trop complete with bomb rack and bomb. Perhaps the next one I'll do in the Afrika scheme.

Now I'm casting about to fill the late-war gap in my -109 collection, the G-10/14 and K-4. I'm tempted to get one of the old Revell kits just to try it. I also want to build some Jumo powered early airplanes, but I can't ever catch a Classic Airframes kit that I can afford. I may have to break down and buy an Academy B or C for a Spanish Civil War machine.
