Avrocar VZ-9 (kit: Fly 1/72)
« on: April 05, 2016, 11:45:23 AM »
I've bought this one last saturday during the Heiden expo in Germany. Few parts, short run: too tempted to begin it!!!

First of all, I decided to build not a biplace but a monoplace Avrocar. So, I've prepaired the emplacement of the copilot cockpit removing some matter, and placing the part #9 that is conceived to mask that emplacement - Well, in principe: part fit not at all...

As the canopy is very curved, it will be impossible to see the cockpit interior... So, I will present my Avrocar with an open cockpit. I've cut the panel, and replaced the front of the cockpit with very thin Evergreen.

All the parts are removed from sprue. As you can see on the third photo, some resin elements were broken but, fortunately, present in the box kit.

To have opened the cockpit panel, I have lost a little bit of matter. Furthermore, the real Avrocar was having a border around this panel...

Evergreen again  :-green

Testing the fitting: perfect!

I've glued the parts that were broken and placed them in position.

removing the resin seat from the carrot wasn't evident: Some matter disappeared and I have to use evergreen again to correct the hole

Miliput is used to mask definitively and properly the copilot compartment.

The canopy (more translucid than transparent) is treated with three different grades of compound. Now it's good enough...

And finally I've created a pitot

This looks promising and I like your conversion to single-seat configuration. I guess the Luftwaffe would have to name this "Jagdauto". ;)

Thank you Scott!

Miliput/cyano sanded.

I have also corrected a little mistake; parts of the kit are not good: you can place them correctly if you don't cut them...

I've airbrushed the black base for AK Xtreme Metal paints.

The black paint revealed that the cockpit of the copilot remained apparent under the paint...

Useful tip: what to do if you cannot hidden something???

Answer: SHOW IT!

I've used acrylic color for tissue to create rivets...  :))
As if for the actual Avrocar, the technicians have just put a metal plate on the cockpit emplacement...
