Title: AK Soviet paints review MiG-23
Post by: No.1 on August 04, 2015, 03:23:34 PM
Basic idea of this topic is not the same MiG-23 but to review paints I have received yesterday. MiG-23 will be used for overall light grey. Basic parts as well paints...

Work in progress with wings painted (as well it swing). Very good result with paint, with just three drops I have paint entirely wing and horizontal tail surface and the shade is more or less is good. lets explain 'more or less'... I have talk with witness who have seen MiG-21bis delivered from overhaul facility in Serbia, during late '80. Each sample has different shade of the same color (it should be same). Other detail is that this color include 7% of metallic pigment. Some time ago I talk with a friend from Russia, who was in visit here and he say similar story, he has seen new painted airplanes in Russia and there is also difference's in shades. So... this paint you see here are good match for what I have seen here on MiG-21bis. The same paint can be also used for the MiG-23 as well MiG-25. Not sure about other types, thank you if you have additional info.

Yes, excellent!

I have an opinion of the difference in shade in the Serbian-overhauled Migs......if there is a percentage of metal pigment in the paint this might be an answer to the shade changes. Our airline is now painting our airplanes with a metallic grey color and some airplanes look darker than others, we think it might be the metal components causing the difference.

So many elements are also involved in the fact that same "official" paint is finally not the same...
Different producers of the same reference paint
Effect of the UV on the paint of the aircraft
Some panels repainted with same paint but "new", compared to the "old" paint of the aircraft...
Some mixes made by mechanics
Etc...
