I will begin same kit than "Second Airforce" Scott: the 1/48 Tamiya Spitfire MK Vb "Trop".
I bought that kit some years ago at a very attractive price but even at that moment I knew that I will not build a desert Spitfire but an aircraft that flew with the Belgian pilots of the 350th Squadron during WWII.
With the kit I will use Syhart decals (great quality) and the SAC metal landing gears; from the PE from PART I will only use the seatbelts and I will of course use the splendid instrument panel made by Yahu :-love :-love :-love
-
Inspiration is great value in every project ;)
-
"Group Build"!
This is certainly a lovely kit and your enhancements will be even better!!
-
Thank you!
I will begin it very soon, letting probably the corsair in reserve...
-
great project, the instrument panel is amazing !
-
Thank you!
Well, that's started now. First stage was to remove all useful parts from sprue. Then I've drilled holes in some parts of the structure; I have removed the instrument panel of the kit and just to see what will be the result with Yahu one, I've placed it on kit part: stunning! :-love :-love :-love
Then I've washed the canopy parts with Klir...
-
Very nice! :-ok
-
Thank you! ;)
-
Yes, drilling those holes in the bulkhead frames is so easy and adds extra detail. The instrument panel looks really fantastic. I'll paint my kit-provided panel for comparison, maybe even tonight.....
-
First, I have removed the seatbelts from PART: there are not correct. I've ordered for Eduard ref 49006 WWII UK seatblets that is perfect.
Then I've airbrushed white primer
-
Excellent seatbelt choice, mate!
-
I've airbrushed the interior green.
...Guess what I've forgotten to airbrush...? :-red
-
I confess that I am so lazy that I attach the transparencies before spraying the interior color.....
-
Back to the Spit...
I have used wash from Citadel Colors and then Tamiya pastels.
It was time to place the instrument panel from Yahu: gorgeous... Stunning... So beautiful!
Then half fuselage are glued together as well as the canopy elements.
-
Yaho definitely look great!! Do you have idea how to present it?
-
For the aircraft it will be one of the 350th with markings of Operation Rutter...
-
Good progress, and the panel is very nice!
-
Thank you! ;)
-
excellent !
-
Thank you! ;)
-
Some elements of the wings must be sanded for the European Theatre of Operations version. And as my kit had some minor scratches, I used Mr Surfacer 500 after sanding.
Now, another sanding day will be needed...
-
After a long sanding stage and the use of no less than four grades of sanding paper, result is good and I can glue the wings to the fuselage
-
Nicely done
-
Thnak you! ;)
-
Mr Surfacer 500 applied as putty
-
It work perfect as putty ;)
-
Sure! ;)
-
Sanding done. All seems OK, painting phase will begin soon...
-
Very smooth, I like that stage of build :))
-
Thank you!
yes, this is a stage that comes with lot of satisfactions...
-
Primer airbrushed...
-
Little parts are painted. I will have to make corrections for the propellers (yellow); the masks were not correctly applied.
I have also airbrushed the Ocean Grey
-
Spitfires time :))
-
Well... Yes, sure! :))
-
Props corrected; undersurfaces masked and dark grey airbrushed...
-
After having masked the surfaces that have to remain grey, I have airbrushed dark green. Then I removed the masks, chipped a little bit the surfaces; painted the lights...
-
Soooo good :-clap :-ok
-
Beauty!
-
Thank you!
This morning I've airbrushed Pébéo gloss varnish and then in the evening, decals...
-
Fast man ;)
-
I agree, rapid Spitfire building here!
-
Well, not as fast as I wish... But I have accelerated the rythm, because two Spitfire XVI will follow... ;)
-
Oil wash ("Black" from Abteilung 502)
-
Details on :-clap
-
;)
-
:-ok
-
Thank you Scott!
Well, I've finished my Spitthis morning. Here are some photos; first three ones without flash and the other with.
Good result but not my best build ever...
-
Stunning work mate :-ok :-clap
-
Thank you mate! :)
-
Yes, this is excellent, and gives inspiration for more Spitfires, I think!
-
Thank you Scott!
Well, I have 4 spitfires to build on my stash: Spitfire XVI Eduard (2; building has begun); Spitfire IX Eduard and Spitfire Vb Tamiya (yes, another one) all at 1/48th scale... And it remains in my stock two decal sheets from Syhart ;)
