More painting was attempted last evening. I wanted to get the Sky band and spinner painted straightaway but my very old Humbrol tin failed me! I reckon thirty years is long enough......so I mixed some of this color with white and a camouflage green and commenced spraying. Also the leading edge yellow and black for walkways went on at the same session. Notice that the area in back of the head armor plate is black here. I found a photo of a wrecked Tempest that shows this area in a very dark color rather than the fuselage camouflage. I'm pretty certain it must be black, so black it is on my model:

Today I masked the upper surfaces and sprayed the green. When I removed the masking tape several areas had paint lifting off. :-wall :-wall :-wall I thought that the whole model had been properly prepared for painting but this wasn't true. After I brewed another pot of coffee and drank most of it I re-sanded the bad places and very carefully masked and resprayed. The second time worked better:

Second time is perfect! And must consider any low tack tape for use...

The sad thing is that I used Tamiya tape for the outline and the low-sticky Scotch tape we've been using for the larger areas. However, Eduard's kit parts come with a very smooth, shiny surface and I don't believe I properly scuffed the areas where the paint didn't stick. I used 8000 grit sandpaper to help the primer "bite" the plastic but I must not have sanded quite enough. The only blame I can place for the error is myself--kit, paints, and tape aren't really at fault on this one! At least it was easily corrected.

Yes, and I must admit, after reading your new post, that I didn't prime the entire surface with lacquer-based primer like I should have. I think you've hit on the exact step I missed!

Exellent repair work, can't even tell you had any problems! Coffee always helps too :)) :-ok I have had the same similar problem recentely as well with primer lifting, think I will change to a different brand, as apperentely the lacquer primer I am using is not "hot" enough to get a cood bite.
