I like Egg-planes. AFV Club realised a splendid Mirage 2000, that will be completed by Retrowings cockpit & French pilot (with baguette...)
-
I envisage a very special "Tiger" deco. For that I've bought the Syhart decal sheet of the Tiger Mirage 2000 from 2004. That will be the base for my painting work, very different from the normal painting job...
-
When you open the box, you are surprised by the jewel that is inside... That Mirage 2000 is simply fabulous; so "sexy"...
-
The decal sheet of the kit is very nice too, but will be unuseful for me...
OK, you can see all the parts removed from sprue; and the parts that will not be used: the cockpit and pilot from AFV.
-
:-tri :-tri :-tri :-tri :-tri
-
First elements to be glued together...
-
... But some putty is needed!
-
And here: putty & sanding...
-
Look great mate and it look like that for a decades this kits remains popular ;)
-
Thank you mate!
-
Done with the putty... I used Vallejo, perfect for the job!
-
I want more!! :-tri :-jump
Nice! :-ok
-
Is that acrylic Vallejo you're using? I also find that one great for smaller corrections and hard to get places, where simple wet Q-tip solves the problem of excess putty...
For the model: :-eek :-love

Yes Profa, it's the acrylic Vallejo. As you say, simply perfect for smaller corrections. To remove the excess, I let the putty dry then I remove the excess with a toothpick...
-
"White day" today: primer airbrushed...
The second figure (coming from the game Blood Bowl) will serve for tests when painting the pilot, to try to find good "lights" and "darks"...
-
Good idea- start few kits in the same time and declare 'cockpit day', 'green day', 'engine day' :))
-
:-ok
-
Primer also helps to see minor defaults...
...And once again, putty (but diluted with aceton)
-
Putty sanded, and first phase of masking.
I've masked the zone that will be white. The eyes will be painted at the end of the work.
-
I have feeling that masking are a bit more difficult then on the real plastic kits?

I have feeling that masking are a bit more difficult then on the real plastic kits?
As the aircraft is really "distorted" in comparrison with a real Mirage 2000, yes I have difficulties to represent at best that Tiger.
...But it's funny...
-
Yellow is airbrushed. Of course, I'm going too far with that paint but I will use masks again.
-
Looks good.So cute! :-love
-
Thank you mate!
Today, another masking phase before airbrushing the orange.
...For the first time I tried to airbrush Citadel color!!! I mixed their Fiery Orange with the blue product for washing windows, and the result was simply excellent!!! Citadel Color sprayed well, and fine!
-
This work will be totally madness at the end! :-love :)) :)) :-tri
-
Lovely colors :)
-
...And again another masking phase... My only work today, as I will be out of home...
-
:-ok
-
Cockpit sprayed with a mix of black (10 parts) and dark grey (2 parts)
-
:-love :-love
-
Bravo! :-clap
-
Thank you!
...And again, white primer but now I will began the camo!!!
-
Today I've airbrushed the radome: 5 parts Tamiya XF57 with 1 part white
-
:-ok
Waiting for more... :-jump
-
Radome is like on real egg plane :)
-
Thank you!!!
The radome is protected by Tamiya tape now. I've also painted the exhaust in steel and the wheels in aluminium.
-
Good! :-clap
-
Master work!
-
Thank you mates!
Today, I've masked around the wheel bays and sprayed Aluminium...
-
...Then I masked the wheel bays...
-
...And I've airbrushed the Light Grey camo.
-
For that spraying of aluminium - I :-think you could spare the time for masking and do it with paintbrush - MM metalizer goes really nice :-ok
-
So cute...And good work! ;) :-love
-

You're right Profa, but as I worked on different kits on the same time, I used the airbrush... And for the correction, I used it too, to have same result...
-
OK, again and again I'm using masking tape... And I've airbrushes the Blue Grey color.
-
And "nous y voilĂ ": I've removed all the masks!!!
The result is good. Only minor corrections to make... I like it!
-
I have seen similar process in painting of the racing cars- layers by layers of mask and paint coat and amazing scene when it is removed! So this is what are waiting us here :))
-
I think at this point that this model has about a half of kilo of masking tape! :)) :)) :-smey :-smey
Ps.I just want to write this, but you denied me. :-tri :-tri
Ps.2.I think it looks :-love :-love :-love :-love :-love :-love :-love :-love :-love :-love .
-
Thank you mates!
Well, I'm really happy. It's a first experience for me in the world of "aircraft tunning"...
-
Here are the colors I've used for the French camo; all paints but one are Gunze:
Radome: Tamiya XF-53 (5 parts) + H11 white (1 part)
Light grey: 50% H307 + 50% H11
Dark blue grey: 50% H56 + 10% H323 + 40% H11
-
Corrections are made... For the photos I've placed the canopy, but of course I have to paint Retrowings seat...
-
:-love :-love
-
:-clap :-ok
-
Thank you!!! :)
-
Well, time to go to bath...
I've constated that the glue of the tape let some traces on the glossy paints of the kit. So, I washed it with blue product for windows and Q-tip...
-
And few more info about this blue product? Some kind of Future?
-
And few more info about this blue product? Some kind of Future?
No, absolutely not. It's a product for washing the windows, that contains some isopropylic alcohol. Identifiable because of blue color; you can found it in drugstores or supermarkets.
More than a washing product, it is the perfect product to dilute the Vallejo colors and Citadel colors; and his blue color don't alterate the paints.
-
All right...
-
Again a little correction (fine yellow line on the white); and the tyres are painted with Panzer Aces "Dark Rubber"
-
And very soon we will see this nice bird completed :-ok
-
And very soon we will see this nice bird completed :-ok
+1! :-ok
-
And very soon we will see this nice bird completed :-ok
Well, I've the seat to paint and the pilot... But hope to finish it for Warplanes #3!!!
-
:)) :))
-
Gloss varnish...
-
Next stop- decals ;)
-
Next stop- decals ;)
Not exactly: the tiger eyes (to be hand-level painted), and of course the seat...
-
All right ;)
-
Just see those small missiles! :-love :-love
So good work! :-clap
-
Thank you!
Now, time to work on the seat...
-
Finally, not the seat actually.
As I was zen today, it was a good day to work on tiger's eyes.
First step: delimitation of the eyes.
Then, painting. Vallejo. Yellow and pale green.
Finally, the limits are marked with Citadel black ink and the eyes are painted in black.
-
Next step: "tiger"...
Simply a 3/0 paintbrush and Citadel Colors Chaos Black.
Of course, the form of that egg-plane obliged me to adapt the "drawings" but I think it's a good rendering... :))
-
Great!! :-clap :-clap :-clap
-
:-ok
-
Such a good and precise work... :-eek :-obey
-
Thank you mates!
Having a few time to spend before to leave home (restaurant with my wife), I've placed the decals. I've used some decals from Syhart (aircraft codes, enblems) and some other from the kit box.
-
Work on the cockpit... Not a realistic paint, just made to obtain a nice result with the egg.
I've placed the cockpit in the plane, just to give you an idea of the final result. Cockpit is not glued yet; must receive gloss varnish before oil wash...
-
So cute work, who care about the authentic in this case ;)
-
Thank you mate!
-
Cool!! :-clap :-clap
-
The first primer coat was useful to show some defaults and mold line. After sanding, second primer coat...
-
Near complete :))
-
Yes... Hope to finish all the aircraft and the pilot before next week...
-
Finally, this project is so close to the finish line. :-tri
Hadly wait to see it 100% finished. :-jump :-jump
-
Well, today my goal was just to paint the helmet in yellow, and work on the lozenges of the Fokker.
So, I painted yellow... And Found that I had a little bit of time to paint the suit... Then the bread... Then... Finally, I've painted all the figure!
But it's not finished yet, I have to use figurinist techniques (lightening, darkening...)
I've discussed of the bread with a figurinist mate some weeks ago. How to paint that? He tried to help me but was not convinced with the result he obtained. He said me to try a base of yellow, ochre and brown... More than that, the bread cushion is not the same overall!!!
So, I've made some trials and made a mix of yellow and ochre brown. For the rear of the bread, more yellow than for the top; and on the top some touches of brown... I'm proud of the result!
You can see also on the helmet a white dot that is censed to be the reflexion of the light - so the light is coming from the left of the pilot.
The suit is painted in "Russian uniform" and the lower part in... "Mud" from Panzer Aces!
Oh, and I also placed the refueling probe on the aircraft...
-
Cool work definitely!!!So cute! :-love :-love
Pilot looks great, and so real! ;)
-
Thank you Sall! ;)
-
Pilot is finished. As I'm not figurinist but iconoclast, I've tried what can give as result Citadel inks and pastels...
...Well, sounds good for me...
I've also varnished the seat and the aircraft with Klir, and prepared the base...
-
...Oups, here is the photo of the cockpit + aircraft...
-
Very close to final ;)
-
Very close to final ;)
Yes... A full day of work (two sessions) I hope...
-
:-clap :-clap
-
Thank you Sall!
Well... It's finished!!!
I've made the oil wash, some minor corrections, glued the parts together and of course scratched a camembert!!!
Here is the final result.
I like it. Really. :-love
First photos:
