Title: The Sherman M4A3 of Wibrin (Ardennes, Belgium)
Post by: draken35 on December 21, 2010, 06:12:28 PM
There is some relics from the Battle of the Bulge in the Ardennes. During my holidays a couple of years ago, I found in the village of Wibrin (Houffalize) the remnants of a Sherman M4A3 that participated to the battle.
The tank was very badly damaged. I don’t know if its state was totally due to the combat, or after some people had recuperated some elements… But what is remarkable is the gun of the tank: it seems that the crewmember abandoned the tank but decided to make it unusable for the enemy. So, an ammo was put in the gun, in the reverse side and another was fired, giving to the gun such a strange aspect…
You can also see some impacts on the front face.
Not famous as the Sherman of Bastogne, I think this one merits a good attention anyway…
