Title: m8 greyhound 1/35
Post by: modellius on April 30, 2016, 05:50:43 PM
I took a bit of a brake from aircrafts and started an afv for a change, it will be a vignete representing Yugoslav peace keeping contingent in UNEF on Sinai in 1956. The vehicle is well known Tamiya's Greyhound with Eduard photo etched parts, Eduard brassin 0,50 cal machine gun, Jordi Rubio main gun barrel, RB 0.50 cal barrel and Karaya 7.62 mm gun barrel.

The interior is great, no need for too much tuning up, Eduard gives all you need, only the wires are home made, at first step it's all painted in white

Yes, looks good to me too... But, as I made my military duty on tanks (CVRT), if I can give you a tip it's the following: interior can be heavily weathered...

Once again I made a tow cable from brass wire, the main is assembled and the first mr surfacer on the spot, and the first and so far only problem has appeared, after assembling the jerry can holder and put the jerry can on it's place I found out the belt from eduard which should to fix the can on its place and prevent it from falling out is too short, so masking tape again to fix the problem

The base. First the wooden base was made, then shaped and the " hole " filled with styrofoam which was covered with news paper, for gluing I used white glue for wood. After complete drying a layer of sand as been applied and a few " stones " randomly, the stones are larger pieces picked out from cat litter ( unused of course  :-green :-green :-green ). Once again for the sand a white glue was used, while the stones are fixed with super glue ( gel ). The black stripes are marks for wheel tracks to avoid gluing stone on undesirable area

The figure, first I picked out the figure from my stash which was best for the idea I got. First I choose the head with helmet, but later on I changed my mind and placed a bare head without the helmet, the helmet will go on the vehicle. The original figure had a normal shirt sleeve but I wanted the sleeve to be wrapped up so i took the hands from dragon's africa corps figure set. As you can see it needed a lot of putty to get it wright. The blue UNEF stripe on the sleeve is from kitchen foil, the belts on the elmet Tamiya masking tape. And one detail I always liked so this time I made it, the Ray Ban sunglasses from brass wire

What newspaper to use to get that realistic effect?

It makes no difference, the shiny paper makes harder then usual paper or toalet paper when dry so I like it better, but any of these is useful

And now the weapons, first the 7,62 machine gun mounted beside the barrel of the main gun. Not much is visible of this gun when put on place inside the turret so I didn't give too much attention to it. Looking in my " left over " box I discovered Karaya's barrel for 7,62 gun, so I install it. It's a very simple tuning set, all you have to do is to remove the plastic barrel and install Karaya's ( which is a needle from injection ) and after that the perforated part which is all ready shaped so nothing else to do only to glue it to the spot. In the Eduard's photo etched parts for M8 there is a also a little update for this gun so I used it also. This is how it fell out

Thank you !

And now the 0.50 cal. It's a combination of Eduard's Brassin 0.50 cal, RB update and photo etched parts also by Eduard which are given in the M8 set, the ammo box is from the original M8 box by Tamiya

These vehicles arrived in Sinai in olive drab and later on painted in white on the spot, so I made a worn out well used look. Some details first
