Title: Horse head
Post by: draken35 on September 29, 2013, 06:03:13 PM
I have received this week two horses head from GDC Dreams, Argentina.

Those heads are splendid. It's artisanaly produced, so you will have some work to eliminate little bubbles and holes, but the final result you can obtain will be great.

One of the heads had an ear broken due to transport. Easy to repare. I have also made the mane with Magic Sculpt...

After having airbrushed white primer and used maskol to mask parts of head that will remain white, I airbrushed a base of XF-52 Flat Earth with 15-20% of white

The horse head is finished. Now I will have to wait until the oil paint will be completely dry, then to put them on a base. Not the one received with the horse head but another one, that will give IMHO better final result...

(Correction: work not finished, I forgot to darken the eyes...)

Miliput day today!

During the process, the head falled and left ear was broken. So: miliput...  :-green

Great to watch you do this!
Title: Re: Horse head
Post by: draken35 on December 18, 2013, 04:18:58 PM
Thank you!

In fact, to repair the broken ear was really easy... You put miliput in place, then with the fingers humidifed by water, you give the good shape to the miliput (with also the help of a simple quite effective toothpick...)

Well guys, of course best way is not to brake the ear...

At least you found the ear! (I lost the tailwheel for the last Gladiator in my "carpet monster" and didn't find it for a week... ;))

Ah, that carpet monster... A calamity!

here of course I found the ear; but well broken in many parts... That's why I preferred to re-create the "missing" part with miliput...

The mane is realised with Magic Sculpt. Then first application of primer that reveals some defaults that will be corrected soon (bubbles; excess of resin...)

Brown paint is a mix of Tamiya acrylics: XF-52 and XF-64. Then I removed the masks, and handpainted the flesh color (from a set of Andrea for painting skin)

Completed?
Title: Re: Horse head

Completed?

Not yet: first, I have to show my work to my friend, to have her opinion: are the "darkest zones" dark enough? If not: Vandyke Brown + a little bit more of black.

And after that, I will have to paint the mane, and to put a drop of gloss varnis on the eyes...

My friend confirmed me that the colors are correct  :))

So, I've painted the mane...

We're near to completion. When the oil paint will be dry, I will put the head on its base.
