YF-93

The main jet fighter of the US Air Force at the beginning of the 1950s was the North American F-86 Sabre. One of its modifications was to become a long-range fighter escort for strategic bombers. But there were a lot of improvements and the aircraft received its designation-YF-93.

The YF-93 was a low-wing swept-wing aircraft (from the F-86 Sabre). The Pratt & Whitney J48-P-6 engine was installed, which made it possible to reach a speed of 1139 km / h. The flight range was 3166 km. Production aircraft were to be armed with 6 × 20 mm M24 guns.

We built 2 prototypes of the YF-93, which confirmed the design characteristics during the tests. But the project was curtailed. The speed of the strategic bombers increased and the Air Force decided that they no longer needed escorts. Both built YF-93s were disposed of.
