Valiant
« on: May 18, 2021, 02:34:07 PM »
In 1946, the British Air Ministry issued the B. 35/46 specification for the development of a strategic bomber. It was supposed to be a four-engine jet capable of carrying conventional and nuclear bombs. Vickers-Armstrongs participated in the competition with its Valiant project.

It was a high-wing swept-wing aircraft equipped with 4 × Rolls-Royce Avon RA28 Mk 204 engines with a thrust of 44 kN. Maximum speed-912 km / h, flight range-7200 km with additional tanks. It could carry up to 9,000 kg of bomb load. Defensive weapons were not put up.

The Valiant was the first of the so-called V-bombers, which also include the Handley Page Victor and Avro Vulcan. They were the backbone of the British nuclear deterrent program. Released 107 units of Vickers Valiant, which were in service with the Royal Air Force until 1965 (including as refueling aircraft)

P.S. if I remember good, as young I watch movie with James Bond and some scenery was done with Valiant at background
