These Big Boeing Bombers!!
« on: April 22, 2006, 03:15:14 PM »
Boeing produced after the war not less than 3 generations of bombers: the B-47, B-50 and B-52 of which the B-52 is still operational today! Here are some very nice company pictures I found today of these impressive ships!

Photo of the prototype of famous B-52 is more then interesting. Long time ago I had hear that this was based on some of the German project but never hear anything more about this. Interesting that B-47 was treated as a top secret project and USAF hesitate it's use in the combat to avoid lost and possible capture and test by enemy.

Yes, the B-47 was designed using German aerodynamic research data captured by U.S. forces at the end of the war. It seems Boeing engineers were actually in Germany for investigation. Originally, in 1943 (!), the XB-47 was a straight wing design, but based on the German data the original plan was changed into a very daring swept-wing design with performances similar to these of the latest jet fighters!
