The BAC TSR-2 was an ill-fated cold war strike aircraft developed by the British Aircraft Corporation (BAC) for the RAF in the early 1960s
The TSR-2 was designed to penetrate a well-defended forward battle area at low altitudes and very high speeds, and then attack high-value targets in the rear with close-in bomb runs and precision drops. The TSR-2 included a number of advanced features that made it the highest performing aircraft in this role, yet the program was controversially cancelled in favor of the General Dynamics F-111 instead, a procurement that itself was later cancelled. (text source -internet)
My own views, this was one of the biggest mistakes the British Government at time made, this aircraft was so advanced I feel it could have taken on any role and been the top of the class. I also feel that there was pressure from the US to buy the F111 so this would then give them some form of control over the RAF and the Government.
I have seen the aircraft at Cosford and Duxford and in even in this day and age, I still get the feeling that this aircraft with it's great design could still play a part in any Airforce. It still has a true following in the country, long after it died.

Yes, that TSR-2 really had everything to become a great plane.
It was just politics that killed it!
Also in model form, it is a rare bird. I still have unbuilt the 1/48 vacform kit from Contrail including decals and some crude injection moulded parts for the u/c and I believe this is nowadays also a rare bird!
Airfix released some years ago at 1/72 scale a limited-run injection moulded kit of this plane which was complete sold out before it was even offered for sale at the hobby shops and it was never re-released. Let's just hope that the Airfix mould will at some time be used again to produce this kit!!

I was impressed with this bomber when I was very young and one military magazine on Yugoslavia bring drawings of this airplane. Very interesting design and for sure this will be very capable airplane in service. Nice images friends :-ok
