Title: Quizzzzz
Post by: Nico Braas on November 28, 2007, 01:16:11 PM
Here are two photos of a nicely looking and highly polished high wing passenger plane.
Can you identify the type?
I know what it is and No. 1 knows; it is now up to you to find out.
And.............there is no civil registration you can check with Google!!

It it a modified version od A-26 Invader for passenger transportation

Post by: javier_planells on November 28, 2007, 04:30:04 PM
As Eric said, it seems to be an A--26 converted into a passengers transport. I found this on the web, it might help:

http://72.30.186.56/search/cache?ei=UTF-8&p=a-26+civilian+passenger&fr=moz2&u=www.hill.af.mil/library/factsheets/factsheet.asp%3Fid%3D5657&w=a-26+civilian+passenger&d=ReWFlfL9P1JR&icp=1&.intl=ar

If it is the same plane we're talking about, it was seized by US MArshalls due to marijuana smuggling. A nice kit conversion if you think about it  :-jump What would you use to simmulate weed?

Cheers,

Javier
Title: Re: Quizzzzz
Post by: Nico Braas on November 28, 2007, 04:30:51 PM
Correct! It was in fact an ex-USAF Martin A-26B Marauder bomber (no. 41-38281) converted into a civil transport plane by Rhodes Berry Co. Los Angeles CA. Known as the 'Silver Sixty' it was flown as a prototype in 1960, but only one was built. It carried the civil registration N5510V. It must have been quite a hot ship to fly!!

And by giving the correct answer, it is now your turn to put a photo of a 'mystery plane' on this forum!

Douglas B-18?

PS. The A/B-26 was called the Invader, not the Marauder (which was the Martin B-26).

Hello,

This has to be one of the hopeless Curtiss attempts to improve the P-40 and update it. Curtiss tried and tried to make the P-40 into an updated warplane on a par with the P-51 and others, but without success. Incidentally, pleeeeese don't anyone say that the P-51 was developed from the P-40, it wasn't as any aircraft designer or aerodynamicist will tell you.

Best wishes,

PV Chairman.

Haha, not so quick, that's not the NA-16!  :)
Very very close though... ;)

Yes, it's Anthony Fokker on the right next to the Fokker V.1.

Now what's the precise designation for that NA-16-lookalike? ;)

Salut Bruno.

Problem with NA is they are all kind of similar  :-green and their model specification digits are highly confusing to me. NJ-1 is only Navy variant of BT-9

There's only one man on earth who can sort em all out by heart, and that's Doug MacPhail. He's been teaching me for years and I still have trouble! :)
Title: Re: Quizzzzz
Post by: No.1 on December 16, 2007, 08:56:33 AM
All right- I check my data  :-think there is a great number of variation and this one might to be NA-18, prototype tested for Argentina. Sample feature forwrd firing machine guns, no aerial must...

Ronnie  :-wave Is this the type?
Title: Re: Quizzzzz
Post by: Skyraider3D on December 16, 2007, 11:24:53 AM
I've consulted with Doug and Nico was right all along: the photo I posted was the NA-16 afterall! The site I found it on (Aerofiles) has it labelled wrongly. The NA-18 had a different engine and the back seat position is different. Sorry for the mix-up... the NA-16 series is one big minefield! :-red

The NJ-1 is indeed an NJ-1 though :)

Wait the Arado challenge ist not solved yet !! :-green
I need to see an Arado L-I Trainer to compare it with L-II, unfortunately i couldnt fnd any in the web until now.

As announced this picture is the start of my post WWI collection. It depicts L IIa  58  D-1873  Took part in the Europa-Rundflug 1930, DVS Braunschweig (Pilot Stutz),crashed at Pau on the 23d of July. Its stamped on the back with Arado Handels GmbH, Werft Warnemünde, so im very glad having obtained it  :-love

Its also covered in the link someone here already gave:

Wingman81, the Arado L I is a different plane altogether: http://histaviation.com/Arado_L_1.html
So that one is solved - it was the L II :)

Here's the real NA-18, so that one's solved too. On to Nico's plane... looks very familiar! Hmmm... let's think... :-paper

What about the Fokker PJ-2?
Though.......by the time this type was manufactured Fokker was not any longer involved and maybe we should call it the General Aviation PJ-2. The PJ-1 was same type with pusher propellers!

That fuselage was indeed the AGO 225 mock-up.

However, they have used a plane as a base and my question is : which one?

For the life of me that I don't know what airplane it is... It's not the Postjager, too big for that but it looks like some sort of high altitude research plane, look at those tiny windows... And engines seem to be of the Bristol type, look at the triangular bracing they have and the frontal exhaust collectors... MMM, misterious indeed!
