Hello,

This is one of several formation photos taken of 361st Fighter Group Mustangs. We think the camera ship was a B-17. It has caused great controversy, because sometimes when it is printed in books it looks like the Mustangs have a blue colour on their uppersurfaces.

In fact the 'blue' colour was dark green - this is confirmed by several former members of the 361st Fighter Group.

Best wishes to all,

PV Chairman.

Thanks for your reply No.1 - it is probably the same people who said blue, who also said that Ed Giller's famous P-51D of the 55th Fighter Group called "The Millie G" was red (!) on top. It was of course green, but it is surprising how these myths become accepted as fact - the old Revell 1/72 scale kit of the P-51D included that colour scheme on its decal sheet, and said that the aircraft was red on top.
