Junkers Ju 87
« on: November 21, 2020, 10:06:41 AM »
Exactly 84 years ago, on November 21, 1936, the first production sample of the Ju 87A-1 Stuka dive bomber was rolled out of the Assembly shop of the Junkers factory in Dessau. Stuka was short for Sturzkampfflugzeug  "dive combat aircraft". Already in February 1937, the first batch of such machines was sent to Spain for testing in combat conditions, where they proved to be very good, demonstrating exceptional accuracy of bombing. And three years later, the predatory silhouette of the Stuka became famous all over the world, becoming a kind of symbol of Hitler's blitzkrieg. The first serial version of the Ju 87 differed from all subsequent wide fairings of non-retractable landing gear. In the future, the fairings were reduced. Photo shows the second prototype of the Stuka Ju 87V-2 in a test flight in the spring of 1936. The aircraft is not yet enlisted in the Luftwaffe, so it is only marked with civilian identification codes.
