Junkers JU-53/3m
« on: September 05, 2008, 09:32:27 PM »
I made today a flight in the Junkers Ju-52/3m D-AQUI from Lufthansa.
Although it was raining, it was a great experience!
Here are some shots of this event. Location is Lelystad airport-the Netherlands.

Waaaah!  :-tri I can imagine! :-clap :-clap :-clap :-clap :-clap
Wonderfull! :-ok

Hmmm!,it could be very interesting to conpare some old photos of cockpit and instrument panels with this one. It seems that there is a lot of new things (whic is ok, of course, but I wonder how many is new, or it is all new, or what?).
Also this parts atop the engines - one vertical pipe (showing something?) and a circular instrument on the vertical black "vinglet" - I supose it is new aded? :-think

Anyway, how was the landing? Soft? Hard? Is it loudy inside during the flight?
Oooooh, I'm so curios. :))

Ju-52/3m flying is 'sweet and soft' and the grand old lady performed perfectly with a very smooth landing at 110 km/h. Alltogether the flight, originally planned at 20 minutes, actually lasted 45 minutes! Think the crew also had big fun flying this nice bird.
Please, note that orginal BMW engines have been replaced by Wright Cyclones which is I think a good and practical choice.

Attached some more shots!

All Ju52 which fly today does not have original engines as I know. I am glad that you have nice experience to fly in this vintage airplane :)

Where did you board the JU Nico? I see sometimes one is flying over my house. I guess it stops sometimes at Cologne Airport.

'Tante Ju' arrived at Lelystad airport on Friday 5 September on a flight from Cologne. It arrived with paying passengers who were transported earlier to Cologne by bus. Same day one 45 minutes flight was made over the Flevoland province, where I live. Unfortunately it did not fly over my house at Almere-Buiten.
Yesterday, 6 October, the plane made another two pleasure flights over the Flevoland area. At the end of the afternoon it flew back to Cologne, again with paying passengers who were also transported back by bus.
The event was organized by the Aviodrome museum to give some 'galore' during the Dakota fly-in of this weekend. To be honest, there only was one Dakota during this event, although a B-26, B-25, Beech D18S, a Harvard and a Beaver were also present. We had to compete with the Duxford airshow and we lost since all Dakotas originally scheduled flew to the UK. So, the Ju was a very welcome addition to our weekend!
Since I work 2 days a week at the museum's 2nd-hand bookshop, I was offered the flight for a reduced rate.
Normal price for the trips was EURO 189.
