Iran Enters Fight Against Islamic State
« on: January 09, 2015, 08:26:06 PM »
Iran has begun an active role in the campaign to "degrade and defeat" the Islamic State in Iraq. While not a formal member of the U.S.-led coalition, an Iranian F-4 Phantom fighter was photographed striking IS targets in eastern Iraq on November 30 — not in proximity to coalition efforts in western Iraq and Syria. Previously, Iran supplied Sukhoi Su-25 "Frogfoot" ground-attack aircraft to Iraq for the effort, but these are believed crewed by Iranian pilots.

(sorry for a bit delayed info)

Hi,

I think the Phantom II has been replaced in "important" air forces only with economic reasons... Manufacturers have to sell their new products. That is the case in France with the "Rafale" which, in the absolute, was unnecessary. It should have been better to improve the Mirage 2000 (and that was possible). The only need for a new plane was for the French navy, but the French government didn't want to buy planes coming from the USA... Politics !
