In 1943, the Design Bureau of S. V. Ilyushin was assigned to develop a two-seat attack aircraft, which later received the designation Il-10. The well-proven Il-2 had, nevertheless, a number of disadvantages — low speed, lack of reservation of the shooter's cabin, etc. These shortcomings were going to be eliminated in the new aircraft.
The IL-10 was created by a deep modernization of the Il-2 - improved aerodynamics, protected the gunner's cabin with armor, installed a more powerful AM-42 engine (2000 hp) , etc. The maximum speed is up to 552 km / h, the combat radius is 800 km. Armament — 2 × 23 mm cannon + 2 × 7.62 mm SHKAS machine gun + 1 × 20 mm cannon + 8 × RS-82 missiles or up to 600 kg of bombs.
The attack aircraft entered the Red Army Air Force in 1945 and he managed to fight in the final stages of the Second World War. He also participated in the Korean War. 6166 Il-10 units were produced (including 1,200 aircraft under license in Czechoslovakia). It was in service with 10 countries of the world.
