On 29 January, a flight at an altitude of 25,000 feet 60 miles South of Seattle on the US Navy's EA-18G Growler aircraft was followed by a failure of the environmental control system.

The interior cabin temperature dropped to -30 degrees, Cutlery and a lantern covered the layer of ice also appeared in the cockpit, the fog, visibility became almost zero. The pilot and the operator were forced to switch to a backup oxygen supply system. For tracking the location and height of the crew was using a Garmin watch.

With the help of two dispatchers, the crew was able to land a plane based on Whidbey Island. By the time of landing, the crew had exhausted the reserve oxygen supply, received serious frostbite and was urgently hospitalized

At the moment one crew member is discharged, and the second continues treatment.
