Title: Fiber Weaving Strengthens Turbine Blades
Post by: No.1 on October 23, 2014, 05:09:20 PM
Teledyne Scientific researchers have come up with a method of weaving composite turbine blade fibers that increases through-thickness strength. Currently, multiple fiber layer layups are used, which does not allow for optimal, thin blade trailing edges. The weave technique positions fibers in a 3D arrangement (permitting hollow blades for cooling) and avoids delamination failures.

Only problem is their life time, not more then 15 years.
