At the May 27, 1936 were the first flight of the Fairey Seafox, ship's based reconnaissance aircraft.

In 1932, the British air Ministry issued specification S. 11/32 for the development of an reconnaissance aircraft for the needs of the fleet. The Royal Navy needed aircraft that could be operated from battleships, take off from catapults, and after the flight, be lifted by a cargo crane. The only project for the competition was offered by Fairey Aviation.

The Fairey Seafox was a fairly standard biplane with a metal fuselage and canvas wing skin. It is hydroplane but there was a variant with a wheels. The pilot seat in the open cockpit, and the observer/gunner in the closed rear cockpit. Armament — 1 × 7.7 mm machine gun + 2 × 45 kg and 8 × 9.1 kg of bombs. Despite the fact that only 66 Fairey Seafox units were produced, they remained in service until 1942. The decommissioned aircraft were used as training aircraft.
