Electric tilt rotor
« on: April 25, 2013, 04:29:03 PM »
Agusta Westland recently unveiled a two-year development program of designing, building, and flying an all-electric tilt rotor aircraft. Project Zero's twin rotors are each driven by an electric motor — which serve as generators when the rotors are "windmilling" in the wind when parked, recharging the aircraft's batteries. There are no hydraulics on the craft, as control surfaces and landing gear are also electrically-powered.
