Title: Deutsches Museum München - Flugwerft Schleißheim
Post by: Profa on April 22, 2011, 03:23:33 AM
Going back from Augsburg to Serbia I made a stop after just a 45 minutes drive... But, what a stop :-obey...
Deutsches Museum München consists of 3 different exhibit locations - one is in the center of the city, on Museum Insel, another one is in the western part of the city, and the last one is just north, near the highway and the easiest to reach. Furthermore, it's situated in the old Oberschleissheim Airfield, which was used before the First World War.
Well, this visit starts with magnificent welcome view:

On with the tour I went:

After rounding the first hall named "Historic hangar" I've noticed that I've spent there more than 2 and a half hours :-dal...

From there I passed through "The early days of aviation" (which is in the command station of the Airfield), by Otto Lilienthal's sailplanes, and into restoration center:

After this room the magnificent view appears - you're greeted by He 111 Pedro and Grunau baby II, suspended from the ceiling...

After choppers I felt a little numb, considering that almost five hours have passed, and not a single minute was wasted :-jump... Also my memory card was almost full :-/... But, here is no room to rest and just enjoy the moment, everything is just exhibition ...

There are also some noticeable wrecks - Arado Ar 66 and Heinkel He 177 pulled from lakes...
(http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa189/jaka013/Schleissheim/th_115AradoAr66D1.jpg) (http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa189/jaka013/Schleissheim/115AradoAr66D1.jpg)

as well as lots of engines from all the periods, from Daimler D.IV to Tumansky R-29:
(http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa189/jaka013/Schleissheim/th_119TumanskyR-291.jpg) (http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa189/jaka013/Schleissheim/119TumanskyR-291.jpg)(http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa189/jaka013/Schleissheim/th_124DaimlerDIVa4.jpg) (http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa189/jaka013/Schleissheim/124DaimlerDIVa4.jpg)

Unfortunatelly, exhaustion and lack of space for pictures took its toll :-roll... I've just passed through jet section, barely noticing those, although there were also fine expamples... :(

More on this museum and their exhibits you can find on the web page http://www.deutsches-museum.de.

As with the hangar 7, I'm going to post more pictures of each airplane, just to manage myself accordingly...

Through the same front door I got in ;)
To be honest, it was very hard to leave the place, and only the closing time pushed me out :-roll
