Boeing XF6B

In 1931, the US Navy ordered Boeing to build a new carrier-based fighter. Developing the ideas laid down in the Boeing P-12/F4B fighter, the company's engineers designed the XF6B. It could also be used as a light bomber.

The XF6B was a biplane with a non-retractable landing gear. The structure is all-metal, only on the wings of the canvas skin. The Pratt & Whitney R-1535-44 engine was installed. The maximum speed is 322 km/h flight distance is 845 km. The armament consisted of 2 × 7.62 mm machine guns and 227 kg bombs.

Tests have shown that the flight characteristics of the aircraft do not suit the Navy. The Navy chose to order the Curtiss F11C Goshawk fighter. The only prototype built continued to fly until 1936, when it crashed and was severely damaged. They did not restore the aircraft and the XF6B became the last Boeing biplane created for the US Navy.
