That's a geat site.  The article on the P-39 has some super info on the markings changeover from USAAF to VVS.  There has always been controversy about how it was done.

Very Interesting website. Does someone here have access to a construction plan of P-39? I would like to see how they fitted the 12 cylinder Allison engine under and behind the pilot seat and connected it with the propeller with a driveshaft and a reduction gear in the nose.
